So I got this bad boy in the mail today, It's a Ilco Unican L1021 Simplex pushbutton lock. I'd like to know how to pick the IC core in it, and reset and change the combination. (is this not for the open forums?, if so, feel free to delete/lock this thread)
Here are some pics of it:
The picture of the front of it was mysteriously deleted from my camera, I'll try to take another one. It has a Schlage IC core installed.

It's a fully mechanical lock, if that helps.

Wow! You picked a doozie. I'd need about 10 pages of text and some pictures to make it really clear. Even for a locksmith this is a pain in the ass job.
In a nutshell...You have to disassemble the Unican combination chamber and reset it to zero and then re-assemblel it and set a new combination.
The IC core you can pick to remove, or impression a key to operate it. After you have a working key, you can transfer it onto a control blank or a 6 pin Schlage key with the shoulder cut back to allow for the 7th position cut for core removal.
Now the good news. I don't have the URL handy, but I know the Unican site has some technical literature available on the net. Failing that, I could FAX or e-mail you a copy of the service manual...

How'd you do that? You changed A-S-S to "d-o-n-k-e-y".

And it's the foundation of decency on this forum.

try to count the pins, it may be 6 pin, with a 7th pin behind the six that open the lock, the seventh pin all the way to the back is the ic control, if you can get the first six pins picked, (schlage, shouldnt be too hard) then put a hook under this 7th pin and move it up while trying to pull the core outward lightly with a tensor or something. a tensor that has a wavy bend in it will tighten against the walls of the keyway should do the trick. be sure the tensor dosent bind into the cylinder wall at the bottom of the keyway, I think this is done in clockwise direction if memory serves, others know these locks better than I, (Lockmistress?)

raimundo is correct in his description. Schlage I/C uses a 7pin key as the control key. It's keyed the same as the user key, but the tip position will be either a #1 or 2 depth.
*insert witty comment here*

I work on these a lot. All the locks I've ever seen use a 6 cut for the control position. Maybe different parts of the country have different specs. I dunno. But for sure here in Ontario, it is a 6 cut.
