Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Need help with a "New Standard" padlock

Postby onetubetone » 23 Aug 2005 19:38

Anyone have any info about these? I came across one and am currently trying to pick it. I only tried once, but was unsuccessful. I suspect atleast one security pin. Any info or advice would be very helpful!

Edit: It said "New Standard 2000" on the lock, if that is helpful.

If possible, post a pic of the lock and the key. The key will likely be most helpful, due to the obvious # of pins/bitting. The lock may be a little less helpful, unless a member has experience with one, but if it is a cheap Chinese/Tiawanese knockoff, expect a few spools in there.

Hey one, welcome to the forum,

As Mick said, the more information you can
give us the better. Why do you suspect a
security pin? What tools are you using?
Do you have the key? Are you looking just
to open this lock?

Answering these questions and filling out your
profile (general area; ie. continent and region)
will get you answers much quicker...
Good luck

new standard

New Standard Padlocks come less core , the customer usually puts their own core in the lock, so they could be pinned any way possible.
If purchased from New Standard with a core they generally have standard top pins.

OK... I suspect security pins because the lock responded unfavorably to raking, and to single pin picking I would always get 4 or 5 pins, and then the lock wouldnt even budge. I'm using my Southord 14-piece set to pick, don't have the key, and am just looking to open this lock. I'm currently in Ithaca, NY in the USofA.
