Good learnin' lock

Postby SFGOON » 16 Sep 2005 11:41

So there I was, no sh*t, browsing the lock section at my local Wal-Mart.

I see this padlock from brinks that uses a KW-1 (read not too wiggly) keyway.

Better yet, it's an I-core (you can pull the locking device out of the padlock) and IT COMES WITH IT'S OWN PINNING KIT ?!

For 14$ that's a bargain, especially if you're new at this.

The spool drivers will make it a bast*rd, but all in all, a good way to get started.

Yeah, I think i've come accross the same thing you have, I found mine on clearance for 3 bucks.

The tolerances are absolute crap, but it's designed so that the owner can pin it himself so that his house key will work as well. Assuming the house lock has a kw1 keway, which isn't all THAT unlikely.

Kinda neat.

I have this lock.(the one that comes with the little repinning kit).
It is more difficult than a kwickset.
But it is one of the easier locks with spools to pick.

And it is good for repinning practice.

I paid $12 at my walmart.

Brinks Padlock

Postby naturallite7 » 1 Oct 2005 13:21

Me and my friend are always swapping locks to pick. He bought a Brinks padlock at Wal Mart, neither of us can pick it.We are not seasoned veterans, but we have been praticing alot since we took up this hobby. This padlock is gold, medium in size...like a #3 master lock. It has a small hole on the bottom where the key hole is? The package claims, "un pickable"?Can Any one give me some hints on picking it? Thanks in advance.

A link would help, but if it is the lock I'm thinking of, it is probably full of spool pins. Light tension will help you open it in no time. This is actually a good lock to learn how to do spools on.

I didn't get that far, in my haste. Waiting for images to load on dial-up sucks like a Dyson!

First spool pin lock I encountered was a brinks. I was rekeying a friends rental unit and was ruining my shims, the last renters took the keys with them. I finally discovered why I was ruining shims, after I got it apart:)
I cut it three times and it's still too short

I'm trying to get some security pins (spools, mushrooms, serrated) from work to practice with.
