Padlock

Postby cutter1400 » 17 Sep 2005 1:11

So I am having some difficulty with a padlock. I meant to pop open the lock but turned the cylinder the wrong way. Instead of opening, the tumbler fell out. This is no problem I have put them back before but this time the (I dont' know what you call it) peice with the two prongs that connects to the latch fell out also. I have not been able to get it back in. I am assuming the latch mechanism rotated and therefore the pronged peice doesn't line up anymore but I don't know for sure. If you can help me get this lock back together that would be awsome. I have included a picture of a similar lock but the important part is the pronged piece still inside.

Try re-posting the picture link with a .jpg (or .bmp, etc.) extension rather than an .html extension. A picture speaks a thousand words. :)

Well I couldn't get the image to work but I believe this link is working now. Give it a try and see if it helps answer my question.

The two prongs have to be lined up as well as it could be 180 degrees out of sinc when you put the lock back in. That picture is of an Icore lock for future reference. You did what most locksmiths want to do by getting the core out. Lots of guys can't do that. Your lock may be locked again also. If so you have to get it unlocked to get the lug, on the side, out of the way so you can reinsert the core.
I cut it three times and it's still too short

I have repicked the lug that locks the core in place so it slides 98% of the way back in but then at the last bit it stops. I don't know what isn't lining up and how to make it line up again. Any ideas?

best IC core

Did you,
During your picking extravaganza push the Spring cap UP, so the
cap is blocking the plug from going all the way into the mortice cylinder ?

If so you will need to re-seat the spring cover so it is below or flush with the top of the plug.
Pictures of the problem would be a real help here.

Solved!

Postby cutter1400 » 26 Sep 2005 0:25

I fixed the lock. Based on the comments from some of you I took a pair of pliers and twisted the internal spring. I do not know the technical terms but the piece is the one that the actual tumbler connects to in order to open the lock. By twisting this piece the lock opened and then this allowed for the center to realign so that I could put the core back in and lock it in place. Thank you for your help. I am sorry I couldn't get any pictures but I guess you didn't need them after all.
