Abus 65/40 Cutaway Padlock

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Abus 65/40 Cutaway Padlock

Postby Chrispy » 21 Sep 2005 0:18

After an hour of cutting and grinding, I finally finished my Abus 65/40 cutaway padlock. I could never pick these things (I have three) and always wondered why. Now I know.

The Abus 65/40 untouched:

The four spool pins that gave me headaches for so long (chambers 2, 3, 4 and 5)

In any case, it's a nice lock to add to the collection. :)

I guess your slightly new to the grinding scene?

I have made some before on milling machines..and also dremel tools and hacksaw blades..

If i decide not to be lazy i will take pictures, but its unlikeley that my lazyness will dissapear for a little while.

Yup, first cutaway lock. Does it meet your high standards? :P

 Wow Chrispy! Considering that you didn't remove the pins & springs, you did a good job of leaving them unmolested. Good work.

*Holds breath in anticipation of Skold's pics...*

Anyone seen the Holy Grail yet?

What did you use to grind out the window? Dremel?

I'm assuming you removed the core to "hacksawness" the pin chambers and then grinded the square out of the padlock body? I'll try an IC padlock next time, seemd to be an easier choice than a non-IC extruded padlock.

yeh it was a dremel..but those days of using primitive tools such as the dremel are over...now i use the UBER COOOL MILLING MACHINE

removable cores are the easiest option.. but i can make a little abus into a sexy cut-away also
