I took apart a steering wheel lock today and managed to remove the cylinder
i noticed a few threads about these locks whilst searching.. i call it a 'cross lock' but likely it has another name
well i succeded and have some pics which i'll happily put up, but I'm not sure if this really belongs in the advanced forums (which i dont have access to )
Could a mod or someone with more knowledge tell me if i'm allowed?
i searched and couldn't find any solid information about them, so it is either called something else, or restricted to the advanced area... put simply the key looks like 4 keys stuck together, but smaller...
better safe than sorry!

Pictures of the cylinder would be allowed, at least in my opinion but not stuff on how to quickly dissassemble these locks etc. Cruciform or cross locks are fun to pick, and as long as your pictures dont make it any easier to steal a car, I would imagine it would be okay.

They are called cruciform locks. In my opinion, they are hard to pick with regular picks because they are like tubular locks-- once you rotate them so far, the drivers will fall into the wrong stacks and you'll need to pick it a couple of times to get a full rotation. However, there are special tools for these locks, HPC makes one called the "cross pick", and a couple of others can be found on Multipick. I've thought about getting one of the cross picks along with a cruciform lock, but I never had the motivation to.

Thanks to Chuklz for allowing this
I'm posting the pics which in my oppinion show the least regarding these locks, but due to the nature i respect the choice if they are removed.
cylinder with pins and springs:
closeup of cylinder with key:
cylinder with pin layout:
key, cylinder, driver pins, and top-pin detail:
i respect the rules of this site and will therefore NOT answer any questions regarding: manipulation, bypass methods, further specs, or methods of removing the cylinder in any way, so don't ask. I'm posting this because i found nothing regarding these locks, and felt it would be good idea to give others an insight into these locks.

I personally don't see this at all as a high-security matter.

you can buy a cross pick designed for this type of lock, a bit like a 4 pronged rake

Dont trust anything i say about site rules i blatently (accidentally) flout them regulary,
Im sure there are a lot of threads on picking them,
Post and if its bad it will be removed, use your common sence and youll be fine, its purley the vehicle thing that gets backs up, if your not saying how to get the ignition out youll be fine i suspect, have a quick search and you will see whats allowed on them or not

okay.... well i stand by what i said in my post... i won't discuss picking them, but i had an idea... i've read the rules regarding acceptance into the advanced section and understand them, BUT... is it possible for someone with less than 100 psts to be accepted? - and if so do i stand any chance realisticaly of being allowed access?
natural intuition says no, but i would really like to gain more insight, and have some ideas on picking them, and secialised tools as well.

The post count isnt really the critical thing, its quality and usefulness as well, there are members with low post counts in there but there are alway exceptions to all rules, wheather they would apply to you i couldnt answer,
If you are that desparate you can always apply and then pm Varjeal stateing your reasons and put your case forward but i would put too much hope on it, not because of Varjeal but because of everyone has to be treated the same,
All i can say is you know how to rake a lock and you can work out what sort of tool is needed to fit in your lock

Its also supprising how much info you can gleam from sites that sell the tools, you may find one that gives a good picture of the tool and you may find on that tells breifly how to use the tool, you could then be in a position to post or pm for a simple question to be answered that will not give the game away for any particular lock ie does it work better if i wiggle it?

very true... but it would be truer to say the tools could be modified
i agree that the likelyhood of me being acceted is..... not favorable
i just want to discuss this lock, and from looking at it i have had some ideas which i want to verify, but not being able to post them is a bit frustrating and leaves questions unanswered.
