Yay!! Good luck WhiteDragon. And no matter what happens, I'm glad to see you're doing the right thing. If you were inclined to to the wrong thing you probably wouldn't last very long around here anyway.

Hey WhiteDragon, where in Mass do you live? If you don't want to say it on the forum just PM me. I live in Rhode Island, but most of my friends live in Blackstone/Northbridge/Uxbridge.
My previous sig has been removed. This one replaces it until such a time as I resize my sig and read the forum rules applying to such.

If you've got as far as convincing your Mum, you're doing something right. In addition to showing her the pdf from DB, show her this thread and let her see, for herself, the attitude we have regarding picking in general, the tolerance we have for illegal activity, and the possible future career that may come from your interest.
You could also remind your Dad that, for breaking into houses, lock picking would probably result in less than 1% of the total figures. The tool of choice for a regular criminal would be a screwdriver, a crowbar, a brick, or a foot. A pick wouldn't normally enter the mind of a common burglar as a means of entry. Those idiots don't have the patience, or more probably, the skill to learn this art.
HTH,
Mick.
If it ain't broke.....pull it down and see how it works anyway!

Ok. So my mom is going to talk to my dad tonight. She claims she's positive that she will persuade him. So, that's one thing down. Next item on the list of things to do...
What should I buy to begin with? I can easily buy locks at any store. And now that I have my parents (mom at least), I can use a credit card! I already asked, and she said if I give her the cash, she would charge it on her credit card. So. What should someone who just starts out buy?

If you make your purchase at www.lockpickshop.com and enter LP101 as the coupon code, you get 10% off any regular priced product because you are a member here.
There are a bunch of threads on what picks to buy. I can sum them all up:
- Opinions vary
- There is no right answer
- Buy a set that you can afford
- Probably don't buy a jacknife set to start with... even though it looks so cool.
And, in my opinion, a smallish set from SouthOrd (14 or 17 pc) would be a great set to start with. In fact, you probably wouldn't ever have to buy another set, but if you're like most of us you'll want to. (Isn't that right Mr. Falle.... )
Hope this helps. Congrats again. See what can happen when you come at things from the right angle?

I wish you wouldn't be quite so partisan about the Petersons, n2. Nothing's a guarantee.

How did I know where that link was going before I clicked it .
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

Ok! So, last night, when I went to bed, I heard bits and pieces of my parents talking, like "He's a good kid" and stuff like that, but I didn't hear an answer. In the morning, I asked my mom, and she said "Well, he didn't say no." So, I asked my dad myself if it was alright. He did not seem thrilled, but said if I could pay for it. So, now, I just purchased my first set. it's a PXS-17, which I bought off of www.lockpickshop.com. I want to thank you all for your support that you have given me over the past couple days. Thanks, and happy picking!
