Home made lock pick question

Postby higharc » 7 Oct 2005 20:34

Hello, this is my first post at this site.
I was wondering if there is a very easy lock pick I can make without power tools?
I just want a pick to unlock small master locks

You can try looking for info via the search function towards the top of this page.

You may be overwhelmed by the amount of matches so you can either refine your search or go off on a tangent and read anything which interests you....

Get some windshield wiper blade inserts to make the picks and tension wrench(es). There are plenty of pick templates to be found on the site. Making picks without power tools will take a lot of time. An ordinary bench grinder works pretty well. A Dremel tool in nice, but is more of an investment.

a member named Zeke has some very nice templates on his site... search for his website... also for a password

street sweeper bristles are nice... and many people like using hacksaw blades... search for a video by Pyro in the FAQ , and download it... this is all you need :)

good luck

The most common suggestions are street sweeper bristles(bend them carefully because they will break. do not bend 90 degrees in one part, bend it 45 degrees move down a bit and bend the remaining 45 degrees) and bike spokes(much stronger then street sweeper picks).

If you are just starting out I would suggest buying a set. They are very chep and you can find many places online. Do a froogle search for lock picks.

okay.. if you live in europe, buy the slimline picks, they are thinner and make it easier to pick... you only need a set of 4 lockpicks and a tension wrench... these will open any lock you may be faced with.. you want : a half/full ball pick, half diamond pick, hook pick, rake pick...

bike spokes come in sooo many materials it is hard to classify them... get some steel ones if you want to make them, but make sure they are magnetic, if they are not then they're not steel - a simple fridge magnet does the trick...

Mmm... For what it's worth, stainless steel is not magnetic...

The bike spokes I have found are all made of steel...

but yeah stainless steel isn't magnetic... :)
