so if I'm grasping this correctly then sending you lockpicking stuff would be illegal?
if a big company like SouthOrd get stopped from sending picks, and by proposing someone [is]end[/i] you a PRESENT you are actualy suggesting fooling them which constitutes being illegal if you ask me.
Have you contacted SouthOrd yourself, and told them about your problem? maybe they will have a solution.

No, no, no it isnt illegal. I read up the customs site, and nothing was mentioned about lockpicing tools not being allowed. It isnt even mentioned
in the banned goods section.
There is only a very very slight possibility that they might keep the stuff at customs, if they knew what it was in the first place , which thay wont. Especially when someone sends it as a gift. They rarely go through the trouble of checking.
Norms here are alot more relaxed that way
Also Southord were willing to send, the only thing im scared of is that since Southord would send paper work with it the customs guys would realise, what the products are and might just create a little delay, thats all.
But if one of you guys send it , it will be alot faster

From what I understand southord lables their customs forms only as "tools" and not lockpicks. If this is the case then your problem is solved. Email them and ask.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!

Lockpickshop.com sends tools with a shipping label that says "Hand Tools". I don't know if they're ship to India, but the gal who owns the place is fantastic and very helpful. If you drop her an email, she may be accommodating for you.
Hope this helps,

Sooooooo, why don't you buy from SouthOrd then? sagar wrote:The only concern I have is that when a company send over stuff it comes with paper work which those customs officals would read and then wonder about
Would these be the same stupid officials who aren't as sophisticated as the west?

Plus it would be so much easier to have the ready made stuff.
And also all the risks are with me, I dont think you guys would doing anything illegal, cause I spoke with the Southord guys and they were quite willing to ship out the stuff to me. The only concern I have is that when a company send over stuff it comes with paper work which those customs officals would read and then wonder about
But if it is sent to me as a gift then these guys wont have a clue as to what the tools would be, plus the Indian goverment allows gifts to be sent to India bellow 100$ without duty.
Plus I would take up all the risks involved, you guys would not have to worry about it....... Please you guys, I've thought it through
I have a friend who delt with south ord in an order (she screwed up her billing address) and they were very friendly and understanding. You should see if they can ship in a discreet package that is labeled as a gift. Also, check the laws on the legallity of picks in your country. trafficing illegal goods is NEVER a good idea.

Thanks you guys, I will defenately try to see if Southord will fulfill my request, they sound like swell guys
And take it easy Skold and Mad Mick,
I'm an Indian, and I am only stating the truth about how the customs officials operate here. I have some knowledge cause my dad use to work at the Airport.
So take it easy, I know I used harsh words but its the truth.
Anyway, if any of you other guys have any other ideas of who might be able to send me some tools, or if any of you guys are willing, please pm me or somethin.
Thanks for all the help so far guys, I really appreciate it

OK, point taken. I thought you were a non-Indian and having a cheap-shot at Indians...sorry.
General banter aside, if there's anything I dislike more than thieves, it would be those who use slurs against other races.

That's the way to go. Even if you're making a personal purchase from someone overseas, get them to label it 'hand tools'.
Some things may be pick proof, but everything can be bypassed....
