new lockpicker having trouble

I just bought a set of lock pics and imediatly tried to pick some locks around my house. I have a brinks security box which i can pick in one pass with a rake (quite dissapointing) but a masterlock i found lying around just wont open. I opens with the key and i was just wondering if it was a hard lock. Also any sugustions would be appricated. javascript:emoticon(':D')

It is just a better lock, keep practiceing. Have a search around before posting, youll find absolutely tons of info about master locks on here.

The 140? I could only ever open mine using profile or rocker picks - they have spools and yes they are fairly hard. Keep on keepin on, do a search for spool pins and see what you can do - they're hard but by no means are they impossible.

The #140 isn't particularly difficult once you've correctly identified the stacks with spools. There are many threads on the topic of security pins and how they react when being picked...read those first, but a visual aid can make the penny drop. Here is an animation I made a while back, of what happens to the plug/wrench when a spool is false-set, then picked into the correctly-set state.

Now here's an interesting fact. In the UK the 140 does NOT have the word 'China' on the bottom!
