would this help with safe combo locks

Postby kwc » 2 Dec 2005 16:27

Hi all,
After seeing an electronic manipulation device made by a safe engineer, could someone tell me if this electronic dial gauge could be adapted to do the same job.

I hope to get better readings as my eye sight is not as good as it was.
Thanks kev

In terms of your actual inquiry, it would be nice to see a link or at least a description of what you're trying to mimic...

In terms of the wide angle of this board, I have to warn you that discussion of safe locks is not allowed outside of the advanced area. You will probably not get much of a response and chances are that this thread will get locked very soon. ~Grit.

So long as no actual discussion of technique ensues, I'll leave this thread. But grit is right, discussion of safe opening methods are not permitted in the open forums.

Thanks for your cooperation. :)

Runout gauges won't do you much good. Unless you can find some way to turn arbitrary precision dial rotations into precision straight line movements. For the fractional degrees involved... I would not think it a trivial task.

What you probably need is a good strong magnifier lamp:

Perhaps one with a magnetic base?

Hi all,
thanks again for your input. I understand the rules and i will not discuss details.
The electronic unit i found was on Lockmasters site and was designed by a safe engineer.
I thought that if you can put something like a rubber wheel on the above gauge and put it against the combo dail, it could be used it to display the movement of the dial.

Personally I think it would be much better if your eyesight is lacking to build one of the laser units. This would magnify what you are looking for to a much larger degree and with common machining tools easy to build.
For the best book out there on high security locks and their operation, take a look at amazon.com for High-Security Mechanical Locks An Encyclopedic Reference. Written by our very own site member Greyman! A true 5 Star read!!
