Just a thought. Have you ever thought of using those little tie wraps made out of nylon? A small tie wrap at that point would surely secure those two pieces. With all the input on this, the solution should not be long in coming.

Wonderful idea. I made one , and it works perfert. There's minor mod for it, and I thought it solve the Problem 2. Just use the unused part of the blade which's showed in the fisrt pic lower portion, make two ties on the wrench, both slideable, then the thing goes pefert. The tool still flexable, adjustable.

And I found the steel strip which is extracted from wiper blade has excellent cold bending performance. no need heat teatment and 2 pliers can make job perfect done.

not sure if mad mick has solved the problem with the pinching yet but if not,...try bondo. yes i mean the car body filler. as i have recently taken up body work ive made a set of picks that i used bondo for handles on and they work great, no loss of sensitivity that i can tell. best thing is once this stuff hardens you can shape it any way you want.

how long originally was the wiper blade insert because i've made a few tension wrench's out of them and i was wondering if i could make it out of the off-cuts.

I guess it should be at least 25cm.

IMHO shrinkwrap can be put in place before bending the prongs, thereby avoiding the diamond obstacle. PVC tape might be another option.

I may give it a try soon.

Hmmm, I would say if you read the first post it will tell you what they can be made from. It really does not matter which material you choose, both would be suitable.
