Snap Picks

Postby puck » 21 Nov 2003 12:39

There may be references to this somewhere, but :

Does anyone know where to get plans/pictures for a homemade snap pick? I've heard bits and pieces about snap picks made with coat hangers and the like, but I've never seen a decent description or plans for one. Any help?

The details and pictures i have are only scanned pages from one of my books.
I have not got a host otherwise i would post them here, still now that Pickmonger has done the honours,i am sure that people can work out how to construct one from the picture.

Ok, though I risk sounding like a dumb :? (dumb=noun) how exactly do I use the contraption once I make it?

If you look at Dark Angel's sig line and see the way the pick gun is working, it'll help my explanation too.

In pickmonger's pic, once you've inserted the dark end into the lock and have your tension wrench in place, you can use your thumb to push down on the top portion just behind the black part. Releasing it, will cause the arm to "snap" upwards, and once it hits the top will vibrate, causing the pins to hop up and down. Correctly applying tension at this point will open the lock. If it doesn't...repeat. :)

Yes it works good and real easy to make from a long street cleaner bristle or a windshild wiper blade in fact i got rid of a store bought pick gun beacause i dont need it the clicker work just as good for me also found a way to make it have a stronger kick by adding a strip of street cleaner bristle on the inside of the handle makes it harder to push down and a stronger strike when released

In the street. Look in shopping centers, and near curbs, especially on turns.

snap guns

Postby PYRO1234321 » 9 Feb 2004 16:11

try a torch lighter and remove the sparker and striker. the spring wire has little bends perfect for your thumb, bending the wire may require heating depending on how thick it is. very powerful though so be careful not to damage locks. i posted on this before, so only a little 'snap' is required. you can grind part of the main wire flat, or attach a flat strip of other material like hack saw blade or even a big sewing needle and fixing it on with wraped wire. the stiffer the end material the better. good luck.

I find that if you use a torch lighter, it often breaks the lock. If you use a coat hanger, that works well, and so does the street bristles. If you don't have a torque wrench, i use a straightened hairpin with a bend 3cm from the straight end. It works really well. heres a pic of a home made snapgun (courtesy of southord)
