Thompsons and Yellow Pages

Postby pcbear » 20 Dec 2005 17:01

I was thinking of putting a small ad in them, as yet i dont know what the price would be, in my yellow pages there are 15 pages of locksmith ads, some pages with 4 some with 30, so there is easy a couple of hundred ads there, what would the chances be of being selected from that lot?
Anyone use them?if not what do you find gets most work?

every area is different as to which advertising medium works best, in some its thompsons in some yellow pages and in others bt yellow pages section, you need to find out from someone in your area the best medium.

you must word your ad so it does stand out amongst the dross, why should they choose you ? as if you dont know then how will they ? you need an angle and an edge.

Ive been pondering over the same problem. Ive decided to leave Yellow Pages and Thompsons alone (though i will still do them online) and go for the classifieds in the phonebook. Its alot cheaper and their are far fewer other guys advertising ( only 12 in my area) so there is a much greater chance of your advert being picked. Also alot of YP and T directories get chucked because BT provide everything in one book.

Similar thoughts to SteveW here.

I already had line entries, from a previous profession, in YP and T. I decided not to advertise in either of thoses, not having heard anything nice about YP; but I did ring up and change my lineage classifications there to Locksmith; and a third of the (smallish because I'm still stocking and practising) number of calls I get are from someone having telephoned YP, which surprised me.

I also decided that my only telephone book display advert would be the integrated BT book. (I also put an ad in the local, free-through-the-letterbox glossy magazine, which easily paid for itself the first month and only just paid for itself the second month.)

Just a funny story... when we got our current Yellow Pages, I noticed that the BINDING actually has an ad for a locksmith smack dab in the middle of it. Only ad on there (certainly only one that would fit). Crazy -- I wonder how much that costs... and I wonder what kind of lockshop can afford it.
