Sounds as though you need a lot more practice.

Either that or you need to relax. I used to get nervous when I was new, but now it's no big deal.

Now, don't get me wrong, but every once in awhile, i'll get a little frustrated, and have to take a break.

If your a locksmith, and your having trouble picking locks, then thats your first, and biggest problem, and I am sure you already know that. Perhaps you should stop business until your more proficient. If you don't want to I suggest that you at least get an electric pick, or a snap gun until you can pick by hand better, because drilling a lock when its not necessary is going to screw your business over, because why call a guy that has to destroy your lock, when you can call someone else who can just pick it.

Here's just a thought that comes to mind. I have always found it far more difficult to pick locks that are mounted, sitting 3 inches away from a door jam, etc, then it is to pick a practice lock sitting in my hands. It could be that for all the practice you've had, you really haven't practiced under the right conditions.

Why not makes up a practice board that stands 4 feet tall, with some edges on it that protrude forward as a door jam would. Then mount 3 locks on either side at about the right height and start having a go of it. You might find that you get a lot more comfortable with the "real world" setup.

For me, I'll never really have to worry about it because I'm not a locksmith, so picking locks in my hands suits my needs just ducky. But I can see it making a big difference for you.

Hope this helps!

You know db that sounds like a good idea that I haven't really practiced on and I think I may have to make me one of those now :) Good idea! :)
