When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

anyone tried one of these?
http://www.hpcworld.com/lockhpc/p_vips14.htm
someone brought it up in the automatic picks section, but there were no posts of people who had actually used one.
it looks super portable, with a good variety of pick, and since it uses the same picks as the electric/gun picks, i'd assume they've figured out a good way to fasten so that there isnt any play (by the way, how do the electric and gun picks fasten?) ...but then again thats just a guess...i'd like to know for sure before purchasing one...it doesnt seem to be a very popular item, whether there is good reason for that or not....

You say you'd like to know for sure before purchasing one -- have you found someplace that sells them?

I've never had the opportunity to try HPC's but the version I made myself, works very nicely, and is among my favorite tools.

i havent actually tried ordering from them, but they dont seem to require a locksmith license by the looks of their fax order form....
no online store though and i havent gotten around to calling them yet. there are one or two other places that have it, but this seems to be the cheapest. of course it might always be possible to get some other store that sells HPC items to special order one.

Should you order from them, please tell us whether they accept to trade with you or not.
Thanks!

it seems to me that this type of pick would suffer the same complaints as the jack knife pick in tems of weight/large bulky handle. The coller lock would hold the pick heads firm though. another question i would ask is: do the spare picks rattle in the handle and make noise/obscure feeling? or do you have to dump them all out and use the one you want? do they all fit in the handle or only room for a few, making you choose heads before you leave the house with it? on the other hand it would certainly store nice.
just my 2 cents (as if you were not already confused about the purchase...) i would still recommend a more traditional set (the more complex, the more stuff to break/be dissapointed with).

Don't know about the item you are looking for, but I ordered http://www.hpcworld.com/lockhpc/p_pip2k.htm from lockpickersmall.com (distributor for HPC) and it's really great quality.
Though I'd suggest to take a look at http://www.hpcworld.com/r_rephpc.htm to check if there's a place to buy them a little closer to your home...
Might be a lot cheaper if you don't live in the US. (trust me, it so hurts if you find out later that you could have bought them so much cheaper without delivery costs and even a lot faster too)

Well well well... I phoned the HPC France distributor and they told me they only sell to locksmiths and such. Guess I'll still have to order it from the Internet!

I have a thought. Maby they changed the design, to include that blue thing, and simply just photoshopped the images instead of taking new photos.
Looks to me as though Rogan looks to be the kind of manufacturer that supplies products that are then "branded" by aftermarket vendors. Anyone else think it would be really cool to have an lp101.com pickset..... through the help of lockpickshop.com? Red, if you do indeed do this, I would definately buy you a few Venti's at your lockal "bucks.
