Okay, I will be honest I am a NewB but I have spent about $2500.00 for tools and a how to learn locksmith class. I called Barrett at a lock supply house and told him about my delima he told me to ask you guys here at Lockpicking 101 because he said he had never had this problem. I live in a new house with Quick Set Locks. The dead bolts are Yale locks but is still keyed alike with the rest of the Quick Set door knobs. I can easily pick all the looks within about a minute but I do not understand why the one deadbolt does not throw back when I pick it. I am picking the lock with the door open so that I can see the dead bolt go back in when I have it picked, when I have it picked I can turn the plug 180 degrees to the left and then I bring it back down so all the pins will fall back in the holes and then I pick it to the right and when I get it picked I can again rotate the plug 180 degrees to the right but neither way draws the dead bolt back in. I put the key into it and it locks and unlocks like it is suppose to but when I pick it the dead bolt just will not withdraw. I have thought just maybe the key itself goes all the way through the lock and acts as a screwdriver in a slot behind the lock but that to me would not make any sense because why would all the other locks work properly when I pick them including the other dead bolt which is exactly the same. Does anyone know what I am talking about?

Maybe you aren't using enough force to throw the bolt. Try to use a sturdier tool to turn the plug after you picked it(e.g. a screwdriver)

I've had it happen a few times where the plug had a "sticking point" right before it began to throw the bolt back - maybe a tension wrench is not the best the to be using to try to turn it.

I've never had this on a Kwikset (or imitation) lock, but some locks, notably euro cylinders require you to push a pin at the very tip of the key, so that the plug will engage the cam and open the lock.

I would have a question here, does it take more then one rotation to move the deadbolt with the key?

I have seen some deadbolts that require about 1 and 3/4 turns to actually move the deadbolt with the key maybe this is the case with yours.

If this is the case, put something long and thin that will fit in the lock, and push it firmly all the way to the back. If a key is in the other side, you need to push untill the key pops out about 5mm, before you you start to pick the lock.

If you have a euro cylinder, put a key in both sides and firmly push one key, then the other, you should see what we are saying.

Hope this helps
