Your link went to the index screen but i guess if it was a lockie supplys site then it will be ok, i dont like graphite powder myself but its up to you, a spray would be much easier, cleaner and effective,

Dont use WD40 to lubricate your lock.

Shrub, I have fixed the link now. It should be OK now. Tell me what you think.

@shrub

i thought that you should never put any oil in a lock only grafite, wont the oil over time start to stick the driver and key pins together

Well I've only done this to locks which are kept indoors away from any dirt or water so it's ok. I don't use WD40... the oil I use is low-viscoty oil designed for skateboard bearings... it's thin, and does not become sticky.. hence being suited for skateboarding. :)

I've never actualy used graphite in a lock to be honest....

And i havent suggested doing it, ive said use a silicon spray or a teflon spray, neither can be classed as oil.

Graphite power is like squirting muck into the lock in my opinion but many like it.

Sennheiser, it doesnt say what that spray is, it says synthetic but that could mean its still an oil, i would use car dashboard polish (the silicon type) over somthing i didnt know.

Update:

I asked Lockpicks.com what their product

http://www.lockpicks.com/index.asp?Page ... ProdID=573

was containing. This was the answer:

--------

Thank you for your interest. The lubricant is engineered to deliver a very
fine even coating of sub-micron sized solid phase particles of
poltetrafluoroethlene (PTFE) in combination with the finest non-toxic
synthetic oils.

The company which produces the lubricant has been producing it specifically
for the US Military for many years. They are just now entering the
commercial market with the product.

The lubricants have been featured in the National Locksmith and KeyNotes
magazines.

I hope this helps! Also, please note, the aerosol version can not be
shipped via air.

--------

So, would you - or would you not - recommend this lubricant?

B.t.w. I live in Sweden (Europe). When I order from Lockpicks, will the shipment be shipped by air or something else? By some strange reason they don't want to ship this lubricant with air - as they claimed in their letter to me. Someone who knows?

They dont like flying pressureised containers as it means they have to pay for the hold compartment pressureisation to be turned on to fly it,

Yes it should be ok as its ptfe, not sure why theres oli in there as well but it will be a lot better than the wd40's of the world.

If you want a cheaper handyer solution go get some silicon spray from your local car accesaries place, they sell it for cleaning dashboards, it might make your lock smell of citus or somthing but its bettert than a kick in the teeth.

Here's my situation, figured I'd post in this thread rather than start my own:

I have 10 lbs of American cylinders (approx 100 of them), and I need to clean them all in a week or so. Please tell me if this process sounds bad in any way. I need to clean ALL of these, and I can't take them all apart individually before or after.

1. Gallon of kerosene. *tosses locks*

2. Once they sit there for about a day, pull them out, let them drain/dry for another day.

3. Once dry, wipe them all down so they are pretty.

4. Spray some non-oil based lube into the keyway of each. This should hit all the pins and a simple rake through the pins a few times should spread the lube to all the chambers, rotating the plug should also spread the lube to the plate between the body of the cylinder and the plug.

Questions:

Will this make them all stink?

Will I have to go through each with a rag and wipe them down/do anything extra to make them shiny?

Do I need to do anything extra to make them work properly/in best condition WITHOUT taking each apart individually?

Any other tips?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!
