Hi everyone! Great place you have here, there's endless amounts of information on here and it is absolutely perfect. I was browsing around the site today and found a huge discussion on the Foley-Belsaw locksmithing course. I am currently enrolled in the course myself, I've only completed 7 lessons so far but it seems to be a good investment. My tuition came out to be $595 total with the free lockpick gun. Can't go wrong for $15 down and $29 a month with 0% financing. I waited appx 6 months before I signed on, they kept lowering the tuition every month and it finally reached within my budget. I currently work for a Retail Maintenance service company in Rhode Island. We organize locksmiths, glass companies, gate companies etc to do service for retail stores accross the country including Canada. I talk to locksmiths every day and my duty is to order lock hardware for the accounts... I knew little to nothing about locks when I first started this position... I talk to a few lock distributors daily and have become friends with some great people. I learned how to rekey a lock over the phone... I bought my own pinning kit, plug followers, tweezers, lockpicking set and a few other tools... I am seriously considering starting my own business within the next few years once i have experience under my belt... I'm curious if anyone is in the Rhode Island area who could tell me the proper way to go about becoming a "licensed" locksmith. Like I said i'm already enrolled in Foley-Belsaw.. I have endless materials sitting at my work desk that I tinker around with daily... Do I have to apply for a license thru my state or thru the city I live in? Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance
