Do you want it for locking from the inside so you can use a differant door for acess or do you want to use it as an in and out door?

Is it a sliding door or opening one?

A quick cheap and effective answer would be a sash jammer fitted to the top and bottom of the door.

get two sets of nice polished brass bolts!

the type used on stable doors, one on the top and bottom of each door
not ideal i know but effective, and the slave door and opener can still
be used.

but be careful when applying anything to french or patio doors!as not
to pinch the glass with a screw or drill hole!
or it can get expensive!

cheers.

Whatever lock you put on the doors you will still be drilling into upvc. A lock is only as good as the door its on. Sash Jammers are fine if they are properly installed they are just as good as anyother lock for this situation in my eyes. Belt and braces use anti vandal screws to hold them on that way they cant be unscrewed from the inside. If the doors have a decent multipoint install a multilock anti snap cylinder the sash jammers as mentioned and i would be happy with that. You could use nine inch blocks and brick the bloody thing up that would do it.

I was meaning would you want to secure it and then come in through that door from the outside, that would rule sash jammers out as the thing to use ut if your going to use another door as an entrence then i was going to suggest sash jammers.

If you do want to come in and out the door then as said its a anti snap anti bump euro you need.

Personally they would be ripped out and a nice wooden set installed with mortice locks. the same with anything upvc, if i bought a house and it had plastic windows and dooors in i would rip them all out and put wood in but thats if i bought the house in the first place because of them.

I would agree wih shrubs comments. Fortunatley my house has the original front and porch doors both with ERA Fortress mortice and sashlocks and Yale BS rim. My windows are upvc with the glazing beads on the outside which is bad news so I have silconed them. Rear door is sliding patio with chubb patio door locks top and bottom and multilock for euro. What with security lights etc I am happy with security plus everyone knows I am a lockie so they probably think his house must be fort knox. UPVC is a poor security wise but with little tweeks can be made better. The only time a multipoint is any good security wise is when it has failed while locked!

Forget sash jammers etc just get yourself a collapsible gate installed and nobody willl even bother to try to get in that way. Also in the summer you can leave the doors open and keep the gate across fully secure.

Because gates and roller shutters look so nice, and not out of place in a row of houses!
