I'm sure this is old news, but I did a search for it and couldn't find it...so here it is:

http://thirdrate.com/kryptonite/

apparently you can pick some types of tubular/ace/cylindrical locks with nothing but the case from a plain ol' Bic pen...check it out and post your thoughts 8)

I mean...I was reading on some boards here and it looks like a few people know about it but some others were talking about how it would take a lot of skill to pick one of these locks...just got excited about this...so are tubular lock picks now being less and less used now because of this or is this just a rare situation where they are vulnerable?

What sarcasm? People are never sarcastic on the internet. In fact, one might say that the Internet is a bastion of anti-sarcasm.

yeah those videos had everyone running to their locks with cardboard in one hand and a bic pen in the other. I never got this to work. I have tried so long too. Like locknewbie said, It is like 1 out of 5000 that has a cut that will allow it to happen. i just want to find one. hahah.

I got it to work once and never again. I wish someone would sell the tubes in various sizes that actually fit.

i did it once to my computer lock, its not the cable one but a small 4 pin tubular that locks the side of the computer so i tried to toliet paper roll thing and it wored.. but it was luck the key code acording to my SO decoder of the key was 4344. Am admitinly it took a good 5 minutes to do, that is actually used the prepared rol ont he lock maybe another 10 or so making it fit and remaking them. It really is lock of the draw, i also tried it with silly putty, my little cousin was here the previous night and left it out it was almost hard so i was like ehh what the heck you know? i wouldnt suggest sticking silly putty in a tubular lock but it did open it afte ten or so trys lol got a good key cut to... but other than that i have an ace to with the code 3164, not a very likely canidate to be susceptable to this umm picking method? I could start a trend Locknewbies Famous Putty Impressioning Thread 8) Instant classic ladies and gents

That story was in the news in august or september of 2004 and resulted in a huge increase in the membership of lp101 during the month of september'04. the method does work on certain diameters of tubular with certain types of plastic pen barrels. I suppose it would or could work on a wider variety of the type, if one really did the research with all the types of pens. Some pen barrels have a rubberized texture near the grip, I have often wondered it this would be a good material for this technique, which is really a type of impressioning with relatively soft materials.
