Due to some bashing on clearstar for the previous medeco video, I have reshot a new one. You can download it here www.locksportarchives.com/Medeco2.wmv . I'll leave the video up for download for a couple of days. Then it will be archived on locksportarchives.

Yeah, yeah, so you can pick a Medeco biaxial. In about a minute. But the production quality of the video... all that dead air. Couldn't you sing for us while you pick?

But seriously. Have people faked or cheated on videos like this before, or are these guys on Clearstar just particularly suspicious? Or maybe they're Medeco reps.

They seem like a group of arrogant locksmiths. But maybe that's just me.

Actually, the first time I saw Zeke's Medeco video (on youtube a while back), I was also a little suspicious. Not a lot, but there were several places where he *could* have swapped out the lock for a different one, with a fast accomplice if he had been inclined.
Of course, when I saw his posts on the subject in these forums afterward I believed him, but this new video will shut up anyone who thinks it's faked. :)

Oh good lord, I would hope that, by now, people know that Medecos CAN be picked; Barry Wels put out a video a while back of him picking it in a minute fifty-four, and Zeke's put out two videos now, and I'm sure it's been done long before those as well.
Oh, and what do you think it is about having it on a door makes it so much harder? Not being a lockie I haven't done too many like that.

Clearstar is unfortunately a site that in the past was suspicious of anything not discovered by its elite inner circle. Apparently it hasn't changed.
I understand that what I've just said may seem bitter, but it's a fact. I've also watched the aforementioned videos, and after having many discussions with zeke I find no reason to doubt that he can and has done what he said and shot he could do.
Basically, take the video for what it's worth, and learn what you can.

Very nice video Zeke...
You picked it in much less time than you did last time, didn't you? Either way well done, that can't have been easy.

No, you're thinking of the last one he did that took 7 minutes, that it took him 7 minutes to pick it - it took him 7 minutes to pick it TWICE, nailing it in under a minute the first time he got it

Zeke,
i noticed that your middle finger
was right up against the lock for stability
do you do this only for medecos or all locks ?
i do almost the same thing
except my index finger is right against the keyway
how did you postition that camera ?
it almost looked like a straight on shot
so it must have been right over the shoulder or near your neck
no lock is unpickable medecos get picked everyday

pip,
I am almost certain I do that with all of the locks I pick if it's possible. As far as the camera goes, I was picking the lock with a camcorder on a tripod in between my arms and lets while watching through the flip out display on the camera. It was kind of uncomfortable to say the least but I did not want things leaving the view of the camera.
Devildog,
I think installed locks are harder to pick in the field because they are always at an uncomfortable height. Without a chair you can't sit down to pick them and they are never installed high enough to pick standing up. So most of the time I am kneeling on concrete while picking. Not The mention most of the time a storm door pushing against your rear. The door jamb also limits your comfort to get both or your hands in to work on the lock. Take those factors and add either 20 degree weather and numb fingers, or 95 degree weather with bitting bugs such as horseflies or later in the evenings mosquitoes.
Basically what I am trying to say is that the lock when installed is not necessarily harder to pick in itself. It is the environmental factors that usually make it a PITA.
