Wart Spray

Okay, I know this is going to get alot of replies...

I've been seeing on TV lately those new wart removers, which uses small amounts of liquid nitrogen (or carbon dioxide) to burn (freeze) the wart away... When I was in the military, we had some liquid nitrogen and dunked a padlock in it, than dropped it onto the cement floor, and of course smash.

Would this spray also possibly have the same effect? I've tried to find out if the spray uses carbon dioxide or liquid nitrogen online, but to no avail.

this site is mostly picking locks, pinning locks and making picks. i dont think that falls in any catagory around here. byepassing and destructive entry is frowned on around here.

You will not get anywhere near enough cold out of an "off the shelf" wart spray to actually make it work. No way. No how. Neat idea, but it would never actually work on anything that can even be called a lock.

You might try the trick of freezing the pins in the chambers though then use one of those electronic lock de-icers to just 'melt' the bottom pins again to open the lock.

This trick works on cheap locks like Master, but none that use good quality boron alloy steel in the shackle, like American, Medeco, Abloy, Multlock, etc.

Someone, I believe it was Mad Mick, in another similar thread, posted a link to what he thought was the best stuff available in aerosol form, can't remember what it was but it was something for mechanics' use I believe. Anyway, you could try to find that (might have been air conditioner refill) or you could just get some liquid nitrogen from a local welding supply place, that'll definately do it.

You can buy freezer spray for various uses at various places, pipe freezer that plumbers use is probably the better ones to look for.

You could probabley buy it at a DIY store, but like everyone else said, I doubt it would have any effect on the lock.

I did get to see a show where some thieves in NY were putting Liquid Nitrogen on locks, and then smashing the lock to steal the high quality racing bikes. I can't remember what show that was on, or if it was based on a true story or not, but it was still pretty cool concept.

The first poster said that for some reason the military did a demo, but he didn't say that it was done with a spray, I think a dunk is far different than a spray. and it also matters whether you are doing it outdoors in winnipeg in january, or in some place like texas or arizona, where the sun is hot.

Bugger, I think you're right, it was gum remover. Probably would be worth a shot if someone feels like getting some and doing a test on a master lock, then if it works you could do a demo video. Basically, the idea is to spray the shackle really good with the stuff, then whack it really hard with a hammer immediately afterwords to try to shatter it.

Wart removers, canned air/chiller, all that stuff is just bottled up refrigerant. They cool to about -50 °C. Nitrogen boils at -196 °C, and will easily freeze the refrigerant used in these sprays. Nitrogen is going to have a more dramatic effect on most materials than the canned refrigerant, but don’t expect metal to shatter like glass, that’s only in bad movies.

Oh yes i dont believe for a second someone in their back garden can shatter a lock i was refering to freeze sprays etc for holding the pins up.

Ok, so lets try it with the bottled refrigerants and liquid nitrogen, see which ones work, or not.

If you have cut glass, you know that a fracture like to have a place to start, have you ever seen the old fashioned way of cutting cast iron pipe, they go all around it with a cold chisel first, so if you are trying to fracture anything hard, it would be best to use some sharp tungsten tool to make a start mark at the place where force will be concentrated or easiest to apply. a little break that allows the tougher parts on either side of it to concentrate the fracturing on the week area. fractures always go to the weakend part, otherwise, the blow is simply spread to the whole piece and easier to resist. so if your gonna do the experiments with LN dip, do some with a starter scratch in the right place to concentrate force and weakness
