Lol - Thats basically what happens every time my friend opens a lock - he giggles and its hilarious because he is kind of a badass (is this profanity?) - he is trained in some pretty hard core martial arts and has worked as a protection specialist for a while, but when he opens a lock, he becomes a child again, a child in a good place, giggling away.
Never thought of the locks as a puzzle before, but yes they are a puzzle. Thats a good one.

Sorry about the double post, just remembered what happend yesterday while I was having coffee at a local swill house -
I am sitting there reading, I got bored, pulled out locks - started playing with them - but i thought it was discreetly. This guy who was also sitting there asks me if I am a locksmith, and I can't lie, so I say no - I'm a lock sport enthusiast, then I explain it to him. This was a much better reception, considering its a fringe bar - a diverse group of people gather her - its not a place you would see the local lawyers congregate at nor would the polo shirt wearing spam visitors ever think of walking into it (unless they were slumming it , lol). He was extremly interested, I showed him a couple cores, a couple padlocks - and he wanted to see them open. So I demonstrated, enitrely without demonstration effect kicking in.
The guy did not at all seem too bothered by the fact that I could open the locks, or that I explained it takes practice but can be done - he even commented that there are easier ways of getting into a place. I again stated that this was entirely a hobby, a type of fringe sport if you will. It was great. We sat and talked abit more while drinking coffee then my date arrived and I split for the night.

I've picked locked in public on several occasions. It's important to note that if you're going to do this, you'd best have a good understanding of the legalities of possessing pick tools in your area. Fortunately, in my area, like many areas, it's fine.
When I first got my Falle-Safe tools I brought them with me to meet a friend for lunch. We were sitting in the restaurant and I had the tool case folded open on the table with all the beautifully shiny metal picks displayed prominently when the waiter showed up. He looked at the tools, cocked his head to the side, looked back and forth between my friend and I, then back at the tools. There was this awkward moment of silence and my friend blurted out "We're dentists".
The waiter got this sudden look of understanding, and then asked what we'd like to order.

No way that Im gonna bet drunks anthing that involves THROWING things at me. Never use that term while people are drunk. I think its safe to say that you dont want drunk people throwing locks at you.

If they're that drunk, chances are if they actually throw a lock at you, its not going to even fly in your general direction.
Random monty python quote: "I fart in your general direction!"

And not just any shrubbery, a nice pretty one with little flowers and things,
(the search engines start to glow as people try to find the exact phrase/words that are next quoted as in we are no longer the knights that say nei, we are the knights that say ecky ecky thump zissle or whatever it was lol)

DB that beats the cover story I use when getting wiper blades - I'm an Art Student - DB is a dentist.

It's actually, "We want, a shrubbery!"
I just made a Kwikset kik cutaway yesterday to show people who ask what I'm doing exactly what happens inside a lock.

does anybody carry 'pen picksets' or something that can be mistaken for something of everyday use? I just recently ordered one through work, and it's seriously cool. I usually keep it in a concealed pocket or something to make sure nobody asks to borrow my 'pen'...
I wanted to get a (funnily enough) HPC "Dental" pickset, but it was roughly $140 AUD. My tool allownce account isn't THAT healthy

DINO seems to manufacture a nice "concealed" set. I have not seen it live yet, but the pic looks promising. 7 tips and it really looks like a pen.

Most cheapo pens seem to have lots of space between the ink tube and the outer wall...I imagine a set of mini wiper blade picks (2 or 3, maybe) would fit in there and the pen would still write. Getting a tension wrench in there might be a challenge, though.

I think it was Mouse, who posted photos of his ninja style pen-picks. Do a search through his/her posts and you'll find them.

yeah, the dino is the one I have. My model has 9 picks, but i only keep the hook, diamond and snake in it. The only downfall - it actually doesn't have a working pen. The design is like a drill chuck, and has no room for a pen.
