Do u think they will let me?

I have the pins that I took out of a lock. I want to make a key that would work on a lock that was pinned with the same order as the pins I have. Do you think if I took the pins in a specific order to a hardware store, that they would cut a key to fit that order?

Doubtful but im not familier with your hardware stores,

The better way would be to simply get a blank and file it to match the pins while they are in the plug, then have that key copied properly,

You could find the depth tables and measure your pin lengths and then gain your code to have a key cut by a lockie,

I am not too good at figuring things like that out, how would i figure out the code. Also, it is a key for one of those little locks that are on the back of some of the combination masterlocks. I was told the size for that is a M3 but i couldn't fit the blank in, what size do you think would fit that lock?

Probably not. Hardware stores know about nothing about locks. If you show them the pins they will probably have no clue what these are for and that these come from a lock. They only know how to ID a blank and clamp it to the copying machine.

Ideally you could be able to find out the bitting (in numbers like 25346) and could take these values to a locksmith to cut a key to code.

If you have a blank you can use a file to cut your own key pretty easily in your situation. You have the blank, the plug and the pins in the plug. Put the blank into the lock and see which pins stick out how far. Then start filing away a few strokes at a time and keep checking the depth by putting the key in repeatedly. Once all the pins sit in line with the outer wall of the plug you have a working key.

What kind of lock are you talking about anyway? Some regular Kwikset or something easy like that? For most popular US locks ou can find Depth&Spacing data. So by measuring the pins with a good caliper you can find out the actual code.
Due to financial limitations the light at the end of tunnel has been turned off until further notice.

You're not trying to get the janitor key for your school's locks are you?

I have a few of those locks and i put it on a bag of mine to keep it shut. I forgot the combination and there isn't enough room to shim it. I had another lock that has the same lock on the back of it, so I took a hammer and got the lock out and then got the pins. I think if i can get a key to get it off, i can do the thing where when its open that u spin the dial thing and get the first number and then maybe ill remember the conbonation.

Why not just pick the lock open, then?

I don't have thin enough picks to get in it. I also figure if I have the key for it. I can open all my locks that have that lock on the back with the same key which would make it less confusing. It would also make me not have to remember the combinations. Also, does anyone know what size key fits those locks that are on the back?

If it's anything like the little master luaggage locks, you can probably get a snake pick in. The usually open relatively quickly with raking.

I thought you wanted to get the lock open to figure out the combination?

I want to have the combination but having a key for it also would be kinda handy.

Right. It's not as though all school lockers are keyed alike. The generation of a single key from your locker wouldn't compromise the security of every locker in the system at all. And you're the first one to think of this.

So what do you have to say for yourself? There's a few serious holes in your story. You didn't try to take us all for a bunch of chumps did you? I don't think I'd like that very much.
