My first

Postby hurri » 6 Aug 2006 13:11

My first padlock was a tri-cycle 264,because i wanted to begin with something easy...I opened it in 2 minutes, but after a few tries i managed to open it under 30 seconds...I used some piece of metal as a tension wrench and a safety pin .....

My first padlock that I picked open was also a Master no. 3.

I used Southord tools to do it, but because of my noob status at that time, it took me at least an hour to open this padlock. Now, I can open most Master no. 3's in less than five seconds.

Just opened my first lock yesterday, in about 10 minutes. It is a 5 pin Yale type. I have opened it 3 times now, after loads of fumbling around. It was more good luck than skill.

When i say 10 minutes, i mean 10 minutes after i mounted it. I actually tried for about an hour and a half by holding the lock, the pick and tension tool in my hands, and give up.

My tension tool is a wax carver, as is my pick, that i reshaped with a bench grinder. I also made one with a hacksaw blade.

I just opened my first one yesterday; two actually.

I opened a Mag replacement cylinder (found at Home Depot) and an old Kwickset door lock.

I took me about 30 minutes to get the first one open. The second came much faster, just a few minutes for the Kwickset. Now I know why they are good learning locks. The thing was a joke even for an ultra newbie like me.

After that I tried an old master lock (No 3) and an old Yale lock I found in the basement. I did not have as good of luck with these. So much to learn and so little time.

My first pin tumbler opening was a 5-pin Kwikset deadbolt which I raked in under 3 minutes and my first true pick was a Master padlock No.532 which opened in under 2 minutes. I started raking and got pretty good at it before I started picking. I made it a point to practice picking more.

Well. Let me tell you that lockpickis is not to b edone blindly. Sure we can get lucky, but that's not what a good locksmith is about. Learn the right way to pick locks (series) Finding each pin stack binding is individualy is the key. It does'nt matrer how long does it take you the firs time, what it maters is "do it in the right wat".
I build a lock picking trainig center myself. and with a few diferent rim locks I setarted my practice. Once you gain tha skil you want, it is really rewarding.

Quite quickly

I saw the video on how to make picks. Boaght some saw blades, borrowed a demel tool, and started to play around. Made a half diamond that was way too big, played around and made a small hook. Then I made a few tension tools (using the stove to heat the metel. I went and bought a cheap lock at a dollar store, played around, and it opened!!! did it a few more times, and then tried it on my master padlock. The one I had to keep my stuff safe at the gym. It took a bit less then a minute to open it.

However, I cannot say that I am carefully feeling the pins, etc. I just go back and forth, pushing them up, until it works. Did the same on my front door until I lost patience, and when I released the trension, I heard four clicks of pins falling into place.

In any case, my order fron Southord arrives next week, and then I will start practising...

My first lock was earlier tonight. A really small one, small enough so that my pick could also act as my tourqe wrench. It was on this random tool shed out back of ma property. Opened it in under 5 seconds. I just scrubbed it and it unlocked immeadiately.

I still need to learn some more stuff before I can open a decent lock.

My first lock, was my parents "stash" box. If you catch my drift. I did it with a bent bobby pen and screwdriver. Pretty cheap lock, only took about 30 seconds. Workin on trying to open some harder locks now. I'm still using a bent hair pin as a torque wrench, it works well.. but the picking part still eludes me. I'm going to try and make a home-made pick tomorrow.

My first picked lock was yesterday. It was my front door (Falcon) and it took about 5 seconds. I thought the tension wrench slipped but it was the lock turning. I couldn’t believe it was that easy and I was right. It took about half an hour to do it again.
