Stuck driver pin

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Stuck driver pin

Postby locked » 10 Aug 2006 8:30

My Yale X5 which i purchased 2 days ago developed a fault. Last night whilst picking it, the front most pin decided it wouldn't reset itself so i took it apart and found that driver is stuck up inside the case. Now i've bashed it with the handle of the hammer and that won't shift it either.

I can't see any way around it without physically cutting it up. Do any of you fellas' have any suggestions. Cheers

What you have done is burred the pin up with being too rough, are you raking by any chance? This is a common fault with locks that are raked and have good tolerances,

Squirt some WD-40 in the hole and let it settle for a few mins then put the chamber facing down in your hand and with the plug back in the lock (without the other pins etc) hit the bottom of the lock with a mallet, then turn the lock round and hit top of the chamber,

Do this a couple of times and if it still doesnt work you will have to see if moving the pin with a hook will loosen it off,

OK Shrub i'll try that thanks mate.

Although I hadn't raked it much realy after i started SPP it, and at the time it happened i was only SPP too. By the way the driver that is stuck up is not one of the security ones it's just one of the normal two pins which feature in the lock.

I wouldn't say i was being rough either really but maybe i had and not realised or something, although i expect that can be a common fault with us noob's.

Anyway i'll give it a whirl and report back later, cheers Shrub.

It could be possable that the spring has gone faulty and actually gripped the outside edge of the pin if its been pushd up too far, the spring being jammed between the pin and the chamber,

If it ever gets to the point of you needing to cut it up your welcome to send it to me with a self addressed jiffy (postage paid) for me to get the pin out for you,

Thanks for that mate, i am trying to find a very small magnet to fit in the hole. It just so happens that that particular pin isn't brass so it could work if i can find a magnet small enough. Cheers for the offer mate, it's much appreciated.
