bonez, that reminded me of something:

As far as I know, taking a single image of someone with consent is not covered. If they refuse consent, then I'm going to call the police anyway, as they just had me break in for them, and they are now refusing to prove who they are/what right they have to gain entry. And then I will take the photo for evidence, and the DPA doesn't apply then.

Just press the 'quote' button at top right of the post you wish to quote. Then click underneath where you want to add your own comments.
Now, thats magic !

Ive sorted your quote, you hadnt put the [/ in front of the quote text at the end,

You just need to now remove your posts per day stats from your sig line and your set

Thanks Shrub, I deleted it when I trimmed the quote. BTW, I'm quite proud of my paltry posts-per-day ratio - it took me two years to get to 100

about the thieves

Postby raimundo » 22 Aug 2006 8:25

Don't just think of thieves as people who make a living robbing and stealing, there are a lot more who are socialklepts, stealing from family members, friends and close neighbors, I don't think a professional thief would call a locksmith for any crime, but an ex spouse, a lesser relative of an estate in probate, an employee, people like this may have half a legitimate connection to property that they intent to use or permanently take could do it. Or sometimes it could be just that they want keys to some vehicle or building that they will continue to use over time, so that if they have you make a key, it may not come up as something dodgy untill a year later.

Re: Rightful property ?

ok, so this is 6.5 years late...

this is what could be done, whether before going out on the call -
this would require getting the license plate number from the caller,
or upon arrival at the vehicle site noting the license plate number.

having customers full name, and the license number in hand,
phoning the local police dept number of the area you're in and
briefly explaining the situation - that you are a locksmith who
has been called out to open a vehicle where the keys were
locked inside the car and obviously the registration is in the
car as well.. so you say, i know you cannot tell me who this
car is registered to, but the customer tells me his full name is,
______ ______. I simply want to verify this is true with
what comes back on your screen (the police dispatcher accesses
vehicle licensing records). the dispatcher simply tells me if it
is a match or not. if not, i walk. if yes, then i proceed to open the
vehicle, obtain the keys till payment is tendered, meanwhile, the
customer is retrieving the registration info from the glove box
and i am filling out the customer info form, (ID and registration
verification) and invoice.

simple, legal, keeps one out of hot water.
