New master padlocks shim proof ?

Information about locks themselves. Questions, tips and lock diagram information should be posted here.

Not fun. A friend of mine was a "1337" lockpicker (he couldn't do much more than Kwicksets and wafer locks) and was showing it off at school.

One Columbus Day Weekend, three people broke into the school and stole $35,000 in laptops and graphing calculators....

Guess who was initially blamed?

They caught the guys eventually, 'cause one of the burglars got cold feet and turned himself in. :D

He's still not trusted, though. Whenever ANYTHING goes missing, he's the one to blame. Even though the theft happened last year. Stuff sticks with you, and people are always looking for someone to blame. Nothing gives a bereaved kid more pleasure than to point the finger at some kid and shout "That's the one!!!" It's the way the world works.

Even when you're careful and select the people who you show it to carefully, word gets around, especially when stuff gets stolen.
Guy 1: ! Someone stole my graphing calculator!
Guy 2: I wonder who would do something like that?
Girl 1: I heard about some guy who could open locks and stuff. He's {insert name here}
Guy 1: It must be him! Let's get him!

People are like that. Be careful.
Natural resources, pollution, the world's food supply, pressures of population growth... Every trend in material human welfare has been improving - and promises to continue to do so, indefinitely.

back on subject a bit, I have for example this post in regards to the Double Ball cylinder that cannot be shimmed, can be picked with some experience due to security pins, and also defeated by bumping.

American Padlock this thread has some good pics of the ball cylinder and if you look close you can see the grooves in the cylinder where the balls will rest when the plug is turned.

Correct, the balls rest in between the Actuator and the shackle when in the locked position. When the Actuator is turned via the key or tensor, the balls recess into grooves milled into the Actuator and unlock the lock.

It is the shackle spring which pushes the shackle up and pushes the balls into the recessed grooves.

If the later you will be prime suspect when anything goes missing and you shouldnt be putting yourself in that situation,

Do you mean to say that you never introduce new people to locksport? Don't you put yourselves in the same position when ever anyone you know finds out that you can pick locks?

I only use my own locks and only show friends or new people that I am comfortable with. I don't carry picks or shims with me at all times looking to spook people with my 'l337 sk1lls'.

I didn't think my post came off as a mouthy teenager, I was mostly trying to confirm that I find the the newer Master Combo locks do damage my shims more. I don't have much reason to have them except to show people why not to use Master Combo locks.

I will bring in locks to my work and pick them there. But I can do that. I work as a tool maker in a union shop and I am trusted by my coworkers and management. I have even helped fellow coworkers with lock projects. When I finish up my work then I break out the locks.
