Only once though, I'm going to have to practice a lot before I can get quickly and repeatedly.

hello forumer's

For the last 6/8 months I've been thinking of a slight career change,
I'm Carpenter by Trade, have been since I left school. 9yrs ago
Been looking into the " Locksmith Trade " and so came across a training centre doing a 3 week basic course and a further 2 weeks if needed/wanted.

This course cover's loads of things to help train you, set up, put you in contact with supplyer's of tools and locks e.t.c. then send you out with a locksmith so that you can see exactly how things are done and carried out.

This seems like a really good course, and at £2'800 for the first 3 weeks it better be !! lol

Can any of you give me some more general info. about this Trade and who are the best people to Advertise/contact to to gain some extra work.

cheers in advance.
Jonathan.

New here, too.

Hi, y'all. I'm new here. I purchased a set of picks a few weeks ago because it intrigues me. Strickly hobbyist. Love detective books. Like the thought of being able to get around the puzzle which is a lock if you KWIM.

Currently, however, I'm still stuck. Haven't picked a single lock - unless you count the simple interior door locks. I'm working at a Master Lock, and it has me frustrated. This looks to be an interesting site that could prove invalueable. Hopefully y'all can give me some tips.

Welcome to all the new lockpickers!

Remember the basics:

1. Do not pick locks you rely on

2. Do not double post, if nobody answer´s your question, then, tough lock! :P

3. Do not forget, to use the search button

:D

Before you pick a lock:
The first thing that you should do is check to make sure that
the lock is your's and secondly make sure its not in use.

Wrenchman,

No serious looks okay? You have one of those faces that can be mean looking, or real friendly depending on if you are smiling or not.

Hi all,

I found this forum while researching lock picking, and this seemed like the best place to start. I'm interested in learning the craft for writing purposes; I'm a film/writing major and have a potential long term project involving a character who can pick locks, so I wanted to know the craft myself so that I can write about it with full comprehension. As of now, I know nothing; hopefully that will change in the near future.

I do have one question that worries me, and I haven't been able to find it by searching the previous posts (though I probably didn't look hard enough): Is it okay to buy picks from online sites using a credit card? I live in MA so the legality of possession of lockpicks is highly questionable; I'm worried that they might be able to track me down if I buy them with a credit/debit card. Is that possible and/or do I need to worry about that?

Lots of pickers in your area, and I haven't heard of anything bad.

They really don't bother to go look at those sorts of things unless you give them a bloody good reason to do so.

Fishing expeditions never get past a judge, and the potential legal, political and PR nightmare just isn't worth it unless you are a prime suspect in a serious crime.

Postby Picknose » 26 Sep 2006 10:35

Hi folks!

My name's Patrick from Birmingham, UK. Pleased to be a member.
I became interested in lockpicking when I spent a lazy afternoon on the Internet at work - then went home and picked my way into the house with a jewellers screwdriver and a needle! That was it - the bug had infected me.
Now I practice every day on an ever-growing group of padlocks but want to diversify into door locks, cylinders, autos, anything in fact that presents a barrier. I may take it up as a competitive sport.
I bought my first set of picks (Southord C500) a few weeks ago and have only used the diamond so far. Now I want to start making them.
By the way, I saw a circular tension wrench the other day - like a disc with a couple of pins in it - and wondered if there is a version with a spring to ensure that the right tension is applied as this seems to be the first stumbling-point for me. I must be really heavy-handed! If anyone has design schematics for one of these wrenches, please let me know.

Cheers,

Picknose
