My Lockboard

Postby unbreakable » 15 Oct 2006 19:53

Well, for all of you out there who need some ideas or motivation to build your own, here's some pics of my lockboard.

Here's what I did. First, I chose how many standard cylinders I wanted to mount. Personally, I decided on 5.

Then I marked where I wanted the locks to be. You can see the pattern in the following pics.

Then I drilled the holes, using the drill bit that was closest to the lock diameter. It turned out to be slightly larger, but it doesn't really matter.

I decided to make one hole larger to accomodate a deadbolt or doorknob.

Then I marked two holes where I wanted my smaller tubular locks and my DOM Cabinet lock to go. Then I drilled these holes.

I made a base for the board, and glued and screwed it on, making sure to countersink the holes so that the screws would sit flush and not protude and cause the base to wobble.

I sanded everything down, and it was done!!

Because the holes are slightly larger than the locks, a push pin down the side of the lock between the lock and the wood will pressure fit them in.

For the Tubular locks, wrapping them in paper and then pushing them in will keep the nice and snug.

Personall, I'm very pleased with it, I especially like the layout, none of the locks get in each others way.

Nice work!

Here are some pics of my mount hardware. I just finished the last door hardware mounts yesterday and the cabinet lock stand today. The cabinet lock mount is a cover off a broken Oscilloscope someone gave me. I just used some left-over 2x1's to make a it stand vertical.

The Medeco is not actually biaxial, I need to fix the label

The door locks are mostly for club use and for public exhibitions, I don't have anything really special as far as door locks go. I found a local hardware store that had a bucket of loose hardware, I cleaned them out for $10, probably got $60 worth of new knobs & deadbolts.

You can come see these locks in person at PhreakNIC in Nashville TN this coming weekend, we'll have a table there. We'll have picks & locks for sale as well as penty of other locks to work on. There will be two lock picking contests hosted by the HackerPimps as well.

unbreakable, looks great but things you may want to consider is a place to put thoes keys, I think somewhere around here it was discussed and determined that storing locks with the key in for long periods may not be soo good for it, also labels so when you take pictures i'm not squinting to figure out what is what...

but looks sweet and i wish i could find my dang saw...been stopping me from doing a significant amount of wood work lately

dosman that stuff looks pro you a display maker or something?

Sorry man, in the picture they're all Schlages.

As for the keys, I've since added two hooks on the side to hang the keys on.

That's a nice board Unbreakable, I think it's about time I made one of those..

Dosman, that's some nice work! Where did you get the PO Box lock?

And I heard Medico was a very respectible lock maker, is the 3 pin lock still a challenge?

The PO Box lock was from Ebay. I'd love to find an "arrow lock" for sale that's actually made by the USPS (Not to be confused with the former Arrow lock brand). I have not picked the Medeco yet, but then again I haven't put very much effort into it yet. After this weekend I'll probably put some more effort into making a proper rake for it and get back to working on it.

hey unbreakubble that key in the top right hand schlage looks like it would work as a bumpkey on 90 percent of schlages. :)

This seems a bit old thread but that is why the search is for :) Anyway, into my post...

dosman, having fun with that 7-disk Abloy? 8) Or is it there just to show that *puts on a hat and changes to serious tone* "This is the kind of lock you wll hate picking" *removes hat and vanishes to the shadows* :D

Too bad that in here they won't sell much of the pin tumbler locks other than padlocks. Every door lock is for sure Abloy (Classic, Protec or Exec) and it is not the kind of practice-board I would want to make :( And practice board with only file cabinet wafer locks and such is also little "boring".

Too bad that I don't have an Visa or Mastercard and I don't have a right to get one because I have no income as of now (I'm a student at a technical university). Otherwise I would be buying all those Kwiksets and Medecos and what else from Ebay or something like that :)

dosman I like the cabinet lock display. I'm glad its from a broken O-scope, I would hate to hear of a functioning scope being torn up for any reason. Any reason why you mounted the Medeco upsidedown?
