You forgot to mention the best part. They are much cheaper than those fancy leather cases.

This is true! If you do what I did (take them from work), they're absolutely free! Don't worry, I had permission. It went something like this:

Me: "I'm taking these sharpies."
Boss: "Whatever."

Of course, you can buy these sharpies (chisel tip) in a box of 8 (in many colors) for $10 at Staples.

A couple of notes if you plan to make your own:

* I can fit 5 Southord picks with the "rivetless stainless steel handles" + 1 broken key extractor inside a single chisel tip sharpie
* I bet you could fit like 10-14 non-"rivetless stainless steel handle" Southord picks in one (don't have enough to test)
* I had to remove the little plastic thing inside the cap to get the picks to fit. This is unnecessary for tension wrenches (which have to be wiggled around a bit to fit).

Doh, I meant I 6 +1, not 5 +1 =). I just counted and I have 6 handled picks + one non-handled broken key extractor in one sharpie case.

For reference, I have four tension wrenches in the second (twist, double-ended, a spring steel double-ended, and a Y-shaped).

Nice. I used to use an old "canadian mint" coin case to hold mine (looked like a half sized glasses case), but thanks to your idea i'm upgrading.

For reference, I was able to squeeze in a twist tension wrench along with an extra non-handled pick into my standard configuration last night. I rarely use the other wrenches so I think I'll make this my new standard configuration =)

As for the sharpie lock-pick case, very nice. I happened to have one (although a smaller one) right in front of me, and I was wondering if the larger diameter ones are different, in that they have a removable body?

Because the felt piece in mine look securely fastened to the body.

Converting a sharpie into a lock pick case is non-trivial. I took the chisel tip to the band saw then took the felt piece out using a proprietary technique =)

You also have to remove the plastic piece inside the cap if you want your picks to fit. This is also non-trivial. Good luck!

Hmm, I have one of those fisher space pens, Ive had it since... wow years and years ago.. never leaked once...

I ended up making two of these, but they dont seem to close securly enough to put in my backpack or someplace loose. I'm thinking about using those industrial markers, with the metal housing, and cutting the top off. I'm thinking that that may prove to be more secure. But then again, it'll be a larger pen. not as compact. Oh well.
