I rivet the handles of my homemade picks simple for comfort. The spring steel is .025" thick and the handle tends to flex back-and-forth in my hand a little. Riveting handles to the side just makes the grip portion a little stiffer and--for me--easier to manipulate.
Yes, it's probably a more difficult process than using glue, but I'm from the old school that doesn't like to glue metal. I think you fasten metal-to-metal with rivets, screws/nuts and bolts, or by welding. Save the glue for organic or porous materials.
And you learn good metal craftsmanship this way... which is part of the hobby for me.

I don't know... I never found Handel to be very riveting. Though his music can be pleasing

One good answer, and one smart alec. Makes me wonder sometimes guys.
I personally like to rivet the handles to my picks if I am using any typ of metal, but some materials dictate otherwise.
The process I am using right now for my cork handles is really good and so far I haven't seen any problems at all.
I have used a wide variety or rivets, and I would just love to find a decent supplier that doesn't run out of stock on me.

You are right, I am sorry.
I would think that riveting would make for a more professional look and feel, however, I haven't done it so I don't know. I will have to try it and see for myself

mrdan,
Don't worry about it, I was just being flip actually.
Jag, you will see some pics of the cork handles shortly in the thread "making royalty".
