Search google for "rim lock" or "rim latch": maybe you will find breakdown pictures.
Something like this:

It shouldn't be too difficult to repair, though, I remember going through that experience some 25 years ago - with patience, you will find a way :D

Shouldn't be too difficult, not many parts to it. These are like working out a puzzle.
Start with the latch. Lay it in it's proper hole on the left side of the main case, with the cam (the part with the square hole in it) either on top or below the latch (depending on which fits better). The cam also must fit in the round hole in the main case's bottom.
Then try positioning the deadbolt in it's hole on the left side of the main case. It has a very large silver part to it, so it may lay on top or underneith the latch. the two other parts look to be tumblers and will sit on top of the deadbolt, pivoting on a post and using the spring for downward/locking pressure.
You will just have to move the parts around to get the right sequence, thinking all the time as to what each parts purpose it and how it will do what it needs to do.

Here's a pic of a mortise lock that might help. The internals are different, but may give you an idea. Sometimes you need to have something to hold the spring loaded parts down, or they will pop all over the place before you can close her up again. Another person (third hand) may be of help.
