Clicking Sounds

Postby Sower » 9 Jan 2007 22:09

When i'm attempting to pick some locks, I apply pressure with the tension tool... and slide different pins up and down, some appearing to "fit into place"

The lock doesn't open, but it allows me to slightly turn the tension further, when I release the tools, i hear pins clicking back into place, or at least, that's how it appears...

My question is, am I setting those pins, or are they just being caught and releasing...?

When you release the pressure on the tension wrench, yes, all the pins are falling back down.

Now that doesn't mean they were all set correctly, they're just falling back down from wherever you stuck them.

Hope that helped,
Nathan

Ah, makes sense...

So then there's no difference when the pins drop with a solid click back in place, against the ones that seem to slide back into place? Neither one says they're placed correctly?

Depending on how far the lock is turning when it turns 'slightly' further, you might be getting a false set on spool pins. It usually turns noticable more than when a single pin sets, but not more than a couple of degrees.
