Will a Silca Matrix 'S' duplicate cylinder keys?

Postby ukbumpkeys » 12 Jan 2007 19:52

I have to duplicate loads of rim cylinder keys (in the UK such as Yale, Union, 5 and 6 pin tumbler keys). I've been offered a silca matix 's' at a good price, will it cut such keys? If so at what sort of speeds. I can't find much info online about them, any ideas?
thanks

No, the matrix is for laser track style keys and dimple keys.

What a shame

Postby ukbumpkeys » 12 Jan 2007 20:03

What a shame. I currently use an old Curtis 3000 key-matic and am cutting about 100 keys a day! I've just had an order for over 600 keys and things are geting out of hand. I can't even get any spares for it (in the UK it seems anyway). I really need to upgrade, I want what the Curtis gives me - basically an automatic machine - you clamp the key in and press a button, it cuts and deburrs it - I could do with a machine that's a bit faster. Has anyone got any suggestions of a suitable machine I could upgrade to? Or anywhere in the UK I could get spares for my Curtis?
regards

Curtis was bought out years ago by Barnes Distribution. They do have an outlet in Corsham, Wiltshire, England and can be reached at (44) 1225 810775 or go to www.BarnesDistribution.com

If I were doing 600 keys a day by code, I would look into an ITL machine. Very sweet, very fast. Insert key, punch in code and remove the cut key.

we use a unicode at work, im pritty sure you can get a jig for it so if you are cutting a bunch of keys all the same you can load blanks into it and it cuts them all for you

Thanks for the help

Postby ukbumpkeys » 13 Jan 2007 8:55

Hello
Thanks for the help that's really useful. I don't cut from code (although I see you point re bump keys) as I have my own bump-pattern - serpentine cut - which I need a master. Obviously however the idea of being able to knock them out faster would be a dream come true. I'll look into it. Any more suggestions for machines (UK is best as it would be pricey P&P, ect). I'm going to check out barnes group now.
Once again, thanks a lot

if your just making key copies our US101 is good, its used alot each day and reliable, depends on what you want to spend
the 101 also cuts your flat keys and with a jig it will cut the old abloy keys

So youre gonna be making 600 bumpkeys a day?!?

I already am, it's gone through the roof. For as well as enthusiasts, we're supplying some of the police, estate agents etc, Locksmith organisations etc. We're now getting huge bulk orders of hundreds of keys (and bump-hammers) so my CURTIS 3000 key-matic (lol) is (as you can imagine)under a bit of strain.
It is a fantastic little machine though, and I'll be sad to see it die, but I'm sure it will soon.
Funny story actually, I bought it on Ebay (I know you're not meant to be able to, but I did) and it came with no instructions, no user manual, the bloke who sold it to me couldn't tell me anything about it - in fact, what he did tell me was wrong! He cut a key for me, to show it worked, but he cut it MANUALLY. So I thought it was manual. As I had no idea who made it or what it was, I couldn't even source it on the net and find out. Anyway, I had to cut a 288 key order (before I got the machine, we contracted all our cutting out, which apart from being expensive, never quite got it right, so my hand-finishing (which I still do to a lesser extent) took ages and involved loads of 'adaptation). Anyway, when I started to cut them it just sort of 'did it for me' I remember thinking - honestly - that I musty be a 'natural', or I was using 'the force' or something. Really! I just couldn't believe how I just sort of held onto the carriage and it - with a little bit of leading (which it didn't need) - cut the keys. Man I was well chuffed when I finally found out what it was and realised I could clamp in the key and press the button. I hold up my ignorant hands, 'using the force' I ask you.
Anyway, like I say, I'll be sad to see it go as it has served me well. It does take about 2 mins to cut and deburr a key and the skin gets really hot to touch, but I've got to upgrade before it dies and I've got orders stacking up.
Once again, thanks for your help. I got that PM - excellent.
I can't sign myself as 'Master Cutter' after that little confession, so
cheers

Sounds like you need to replace your cutter and that this is an advertiseing thread,

Not this again

Postby ukbumpkeys » 14 Jan 2007 11:56

Right, I don't want to get banned. If you think this is an advertising thread, get rid of it. I actually needed the help and got loads of it from loads of your members and sold precisely zero keys because of it. I can't imagine many people who come here would want to buy bump keys anyway, esp not UK ones. Especially since I haven't mentioned what we do, prices etc etc.
If you want to lose go for it, I got the information I was after and wasn;t trying to advertise. tell me what to do. Do you want me to change my user name? I've looked at your rules and feel I haven't violated them.
I don't want any hassle, and I certainly don't need any more orders.

It seems like you're speaking of a machine like the Axxess Plus, the Wal-Mart key machine.
