Curious about a lock one of my guys encountered today...

Quick question.

One of my guys came across a deadbolt he thought was pretty strange today. It was a lockout, these two young ladies had locked themselves out of the house. The door had a KiK and deadbolt. So he picked the knob in a few seconds, but the door was still firmly closed. So he asked how she had locked the deadbolt without her keys. Turns out its a deadbolt that you can turn the collar to lock from the outside, without keys. He was in a rush and picked it and left. I'm curisous about what that thing was... Who can tell me?

This is a pretty rural area, so pardon my ignorance but we don't come across new things very often.

these deadbolts are a good idea, i have only seen a couple of them, i think they where LANE ones that i saw and they looked really good.
im supprised more people dont use them

It is a good idea, but is that ring also good against physical attack? also, being able to lock your door without the key from outside produces lockouts for the locksmiths. I would put that on a double cylinder deadbolt and use it as the inside cylinder. that way you won't be leaving the key in the inside cylinder so much.
