This is probably a dumb question but on doors where like on a deadbolt there is a big rectangular bolt that comes out into the door frame.
what is the name given to a lock that has like a triangle or wedge type thing for the bolt (like on most doors)

Spring latch is what I think you are looking for.

If the latch cannot be pushed back into the lock after the door is shut (usually through the actions of a secondary latch device) it may be referred to as a deadlatch.
