First off, DO NOT impression a lock that you are using, such as your front door. Impressioning can put a lot of wear on your lock and potentially render it inoperable!
With that said, If you want to know what kind of key blank fits your lock it'd hel pto knwo what kind of lock you have and what kind of blank you're using.
Pictures would be best if you don't know.

Congratulations on getting started at impressioning. As for the key, SIZE DOES MATTER - remeber with locks you are dealing with very fine measurements - fractions of an inch (3 thousandths or less in some cases). The same is true for some keys, what may apear to be the same key may in fact be just a little smaller or larger, or the PROFILE of the keyblade may be slightly different - causing it not to fit.
Another reason the key may not fit is due to the pins in the lock itself.
If you have some very large (long) top pins and large bottom pin/s then they may be preventing the new key from sliding past. This may also be a sign in some cases of a lock that has been improperly pinned.
Are you able to provide a brand name of the lock, and/or pictures of your keys, and I am sure someone here can answer any further questions.
Just out of curiousity where did you purchase your "BLANK" key, if it was from a locksmith you should perhaps ask them why it doesn't fit your lock and demand your money back. All $2.50 of it!

Easy now cowboy. No need to go demanding without more info.
I'm betting he has the wrong key for the lock.
Even if he got it from a locksmith, if all he said was he wanted a Schlage key blank, who the heck knows which one he really needs. Just because the bow looks the same, does not really mean much.
What does your original key have stamped on it? What does the new blank have on it?

well after a bit of random refining and filing in turned out to fit the lock, i guess the bottom of the blade was to deep so a quick file job helped, aswell i just finished my first bump key, anyways i figured it out, also i got the key for free.......he threw it in with the files....i was suprised no one questioned me, im 14 and was buying a bunch of expensive files and some blanks...lol....anyways figured it out, THANKS

Its likely that when you are sure you have the right key blank the actual blank needs modifying before it fots,
By this i mean that the blank key may have a higher blade thean a zero cut,
Any blade should be cut to the zero cut at least to ensure correct fitment without over lifting the pins and thusly damageing the springs,
