Just wanted to know what you class as criminal record for not being a lock smith i.e. i got a good behaviour bond for common assult in 1989 and that still shows up on crb so does that mean i caint be a locksmith once trained. Just after advice guys not been in trouble since.

i dunno uk laws but you could most likly apply for a pardon on a case that old and ago

the conviction would be classed as spent officially and would not count against you as long as over 5 years old with no reoffence.

Apply for a basic disclosure and it will show as a clean record, a basic disclosure is all MLA and ICL ask for, they are interested in your character now and not 18 years ago, everyone can make a mistake when young.

as a guide to when a conviction is spent;

1) a prosecution involving a fine, community service and asbo is considered spent after 5 years.

2 ) a conviction involving prison sentence is considered spent after 11 years

The exception to this is rape , murder , child abuse and kiddie fiddling, these are never considered spent.

you will not have a problem, though sadly in the uk can be a prolific criminal and still trade as a locksmith, wrong i know but fact, nothing to stop you as considered clean.

The entire UK seems overpopulated with locksmiths. There's at least 60 where I am, and only 300,000 homes! Travelling a long way would seem to be the only way to get enough work, and even then, self-promotion, cutting prices, being good, etc. all factor in.

We see enough people go down the "training" route, too. People who would be amazed by 101's homemade picks and picking, yet "training" people to be locksmiths on a daily basis, with promises of £1000 a week income for running around with a power drill.

As long as you weren't convicted of B&E crimes and anything else lockey1963 stated you should be ok.

Don't forget about the bank robber who spent time in prison and became a locksmith. Of course, this was in the US, but I don't see how small non-violent non-theft crimes from '89 would affect you today.

guys i was in army at time and came home after 6mth tour northern irlerland and my so called wife at time was having offaire with him whilst in ireland and he put his hand up her skirt no knowing i was there i put him in hospital for three weeks but all got charged with was common assult think the police was on my side. THANK GOD he was well know theif to them i was lucky but yet again maybe he was lucky and yet again it takes 2 to tango hence she was divorced asap after still taking me for everything went back to NI to get away from it but here is the giggle lads been married twice since and about to be single again asap me what a fool. If the police was "on your side" of this issue you shouldnt have any problems getting employed as a locksmith in my opinion. I think just about anyone would react the same way if they were in that kind of situation.

Personal opinion between local officers at the time have no bearing on a criminal record and how it may be viewed by someone, especially in another state/locale. But all things considering, it's not the type of criminal history I would worry about when applying as a locksmith or starting my own business. Few places require such background checks.
