I'm pretty much a newbie, but I've been picking Schlage's, Yale's, Russwin's, and pretty much anything else I can get my hands on. The Schlage's seem to be the hardest because the keyway is tighter than most of the others. As far as padlocks go, I mostly have master's, but I've got some Yale's and Best locks too. This is just my opinion. Hope it helps you.

I would stick with basic 5 pin locks until you get comfortable enough to walk up to them and pick it with out a second thought. There are many many many different 5 pin door locks out there not to get to stagnet. Once you get familiar/bored with 5pins throw in some security pins.

As far as pad locks most inexpensive padlocks are not really worth the trouble in my opinion. They are portable but usually easy to pick and dont give as much as a challange.Im not saying dont get familiar with them just at a basic level, any basic padlock isnt worth getting worked up over.

Hope this helps

Just about any door locks they sell at Home Depot is easy prey. But I would stay away from Schlages and Kwikset Ultramax though because they employ spool pins in them. Titans may do the same since it's owned by Kwikset.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture

I like home depot because you can try it before you buy it :P
Their displays are very interactive if you know what i mean.
The only thing i couldn't pick was that new piece of crap weiser smart lock.
The people at home depot are even kind enough to leave security chests on display :P

But its probably a good idea to make sure its okay first.

Wow. That's brilliant.
I'm so gonna go do that now.
But yeah. Actually I found some nice practice cylinders at my local target.
Also I found this really cool like junk yard sort of place where they take all the building materials before they demolish and stuff, and they have a huge bucket full of old locks. For really cheap.
