Finding out combination of abus bike lock

Postby Rubberducky » 16 Mar 2007 10:38

I have an ABUS combination bike lock, it consists of 4 dials each with the digits 0(.) through 9.
Every time you turn a dial it clicks, so i can't really any difference. I duct-taped a mic to the lock, but i'm not sure for what sound difference i'm looking...
Is there a way to find out the combination of this lock?
If you want pictures, i can submit them.

I would just go through each number from 0000 to 9999. I know that's a lot of permutations, but it's effective. You might try remembering some small part of the combination, and that will reduce the number of guesses significantly.

Bike locks are a bit of a sore spot here, just as school lockers, parents' cheap fire safes, gun cabinets, automobiles... etc. We get hundreds of kids asking how to break into these things, and the obvious answer is "No!".

Besides, we are a lock picking forum. Combination locks cannot be picked.

Posting pictures would help a lot.

Work out which side has the moveable part and then hook the cable around somthing,

Pull oin the cable and then starting with the wheel furthest away from the moveable part turn it until the moveable part gives a bit, then move on to the next wheel doing the same,

I dont believe such things are just found but i have given you the benefit of the doubt,

I use this technique with other combination locks, but from the moment you pull on the side that opens you are not able to move the dials...

I've looked around on the forums and on google but i can't find how to work a sesame decoder. I understand it can be made from anything thin that fits in a specific location in the lock. But how does it work?

Ok your new so ill let you off,

1 min on the search button fetched this post up,
viewtopic.php?p=128619#128619

Click the link on that and look for the mini knife on the link,

Click the link on that to see the instructions for it,

You will now see somthing that should help you,

Theres plenty of stuff about it on here but theres nothing with an appropreate title to come up in the search, if there was a decent guide written it would be made a sticky then we could point you to it, hint hint to all the others

I was able to unlock a certain sort of combination locks, the copper ones, like this one
http://www.wesecure.com/combination-lock.htm

and i guess they are simular to such bike locks

i'm dutch, so i can have some trouble explaining this

i oiled the lock with WD40, and then pulled it "open" continously, i started to turn the wheel below, when it hits the right place, you feel the "click", then the second one, turn it till you feel the click

they are just wheels, with a cut in it on a certain digit right

i really needed the oil, so you can feel the "click" smoothly, you really need to oil it good before you feel it
Always in training.

this may sound sort of dumb but if you remember the combination it was left at when you found it that may help alot to find the actual combination, alot of people spin the dials all at the same time or just one dial... i see you said youve played with it but if you remember what combo you found it at by some small chance,i would write it down and move it back to that position and start from there trying to crack it,kind of like preserving a crime scene

sounds right

Postby raimundo » 21 Mar 2007 9:47

Rkevin has it right, if you start with the wheels all as you found them, then move the one on the right of the number pack,(people are right handed, so the lazy move is made with the right hand.) try all ten possiblilities of this wheel. if that dosent work, go to the left side and maybe the person was left handed, and only displaced one number, its far more likely that the number displaced is on the end of the pack, so it may not even be useful to try this techinque on all the wheels.

I liked the suggestion of oil, the one thing that makes these locks difficult to feel out is the friction, they have no oil at all in them. lubrication will increase the feel.

Examine the wheels very closely, push them all to the left then pull on the cable while watching the number packs, determine if one or more of the wheels is not being affected by the pulling after pushing all the wheels to the left. then of course, if that dosent work, do it again pushing all the wheels to the other side,

when pulling hard on the cable, determine which wheel is stuck the hardest. this is like the binding pin in a pin tumbler, in that you have to work the wheels in the order that they bind. move this tumbler one place and try again, by the time you have tried all ten numbers on the wheel, you can put the wheel on the least binding number, and move on to another wheel. it will get easier as you set some of the wheels to the gate. and there is one gate on each ten number wheel, you only have to set each wheel so that the gate is present where the rack comes through the hole.
Some of these locks have a two piece wheel, one part in the center is the locking hole and gate, while the outer part is what you feel when manipulating the wheels. this eliminates the easiest feel but if you know what you are looking for you may be able to intuit your way past that outer wheel and get some feedback on the set of the inner wheel. If you learn any new tricks, tell us about them 8)

stupid idea

Postby Singful » 22 Mar 2007 2:57

Ok this is cheap and stupid, but it may help if you get to your wits end. When I first saw a video on YouTube on feeling combo locks I when right up to the store and got a combo lock. Without looking at the combo I started to feel the lock but in a short time I gave up and looked at the combo. When I knew the combo it was easier to find the combo because I reverse engineered the process and it gave me a feel for the thing. What I suggest for you is to get a new lock and mess with that and then transfer your new found skills to the lock that you are looking at now.
