Brinks 5059

Postby Wolfe » 16 Mar 2007 18:17

i Im not sure if this falls under the dreaded advanced topic or not but my question is about the brinks 5059. I was given a dozen or so safes to play with and the brinks has a duel lock. my question is does the the lock need to be worked in tandem or is it a lock that can either be opened with a key or with just the combo?
I hope you can see the pic ok i took it real quick with my phone. cant see the lp101 rulz very well but oh well.

I am certainly not a safe-technician, but the safes I have encountered like what you pictured required the correct combination to be dialled, and then the key can be used to retract the boltwork. I don't think anything more can be said in open forums.

I think it only tends to be the cheapo "safes" that use a key as an 'override' - where the key can open the safe without the combination being entered. In these cheap 'safes' this is usually done incase of battery failure.

I am sure you have seen safes where you dial the combination and turn the handle/lever to retract the boltwork? Think of the keyed lock on this safe as that handle.

if both locks are locked you will need the combo and the key to get access, but if the key lock was not locked you could just use the combo, so the safe needs both to gain access, as merc already said the key overide I have only ever seen on cheap digital safes, you can also get ones that have a key on the safe dial so it can be turned untill the dial is unlocked
