I was having problems with lock id, bought this new book from safeventures when buying some picks, and now i have no problems, loads of info and instruction on identification , fitting and non destructively opening each lock, helped me big time.

There are lots of id cd about but i bought this as its written by 4 working locksmiths and fully supported and endorsed by safeventures, sks and the ICL,

This book is supposed to be only available to accredited account holders and ICL members; ie Locksmiths and Security professionals, although I expect it to appear on E-Bay before long.

I didnt realise Safe Ventures are now selling icl tools

That book can be bought by anyone just like many of the other tools,

Ive not seen it myself but was told it was a updated printed version of the cd pinky did which was ok,

Theres loads of these around, some are already on ebay and promise to be better than any of the others, Mark Francis sells them, Chris Belchers is supposed to be good and theres various mortice id online for free if your a member of some trade forums,

Theres only so many ways a lock can be photo'd so they are all pretty much the same,

The info has alredy done the rounds on ebay in book form and on cd nothing new and lock ID is down to experince and nothing else yes a written reference can help but it cannot teach only advise.

I agree, if you drill locks get a template,

Otherwise very little in the way of use,

If your struggleing with lock id the best thing i can ever suggest to do is to start making your own id book up,

I did this when i started and before i finished it i knew my lock id

You dont need tips (or adverts depending on which book you get) on which tool to use, you should instinctively know that from get go,

wasn't strugling with all locks, just a few of the older, less used ones.
the book covers so many, can't think of any that wouldn't be in it.

I have drill templates but don't use them and being non-destuctive, it's a great help for the lever shapes and gauges.
