SAFETY FIRST THEN TEMPER STEEL

Postby snelprobe1313 » 22 Apr 2007 7:34

Due to popular demand, and my own negligence i'm posting a topic for safety, and some safety procedures that should under no circumstances be overlooked

1. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND SHOULD BE DONE OUTSIDE AND IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA AND NOT DONE BY ANYONE WHO HAS NO IDEA WHAT THEIR DOING.

2. TO DO THIS IT REQUIRES SOME EXPERIENCE WITH METAL HARDENING AND TEMPERING

3.BECAUSE YOU ARE WORKING WITH FIRE MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A FIRE EXTINGUISHER AND MAKE A CALL TO YOUR LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT AND LET THEM KNOW WHAT YOUR DOING JUST IN CASE.

4.WEAR SAFETY GLASSES

5. THICK INSULATED GLOVES (WIELDING GLOVES, FIRE GLOVES..ETC) NOT YOUR MOMS POT HOLDERS SHE WILL BE MAD

6.MAKE SURE YOU DO THIS ON A PAVED SURFACE OR DIRT AND ANY SPILLING OF ANY OIL CAN RESULI IN BIG FINES AND OR JAIL TIME DEPENDING ON WHAT STATE YOU LIVE IN, AND THE OIL WILL KILL YOUR LAWN

7.MAKE SURE ANYTHING FLAMMABLE IS AWAY FROM ANYTHING HOT OR ON FIRE . WE WANT TO KEEP THE SITUATION UNDER CONTROL

I'm curious as to what you mean by your own negligence. :? I usually temper metal in oil but never had a fire hazard problem before. But this kind of thing I usually do outside.
If a lock is a puzzle, then its key is the complete picture
