Questions regarding SouthOrd Picksets

When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

Questions regarding SouthOrd Picksets

Postby rpctk » 28 Sep 2003 11:57

Some things I was wondering about the SouthOrd sets.
1) What's the greatest number of standard picks (Not counting tubular or schlage picks) you'll ever need?
2) Why is the PXS-14 with 14 picks cheaper than the MPXS-11 with only 11 picks?
3) What's the difference between PXS-14 and MPXS-14?
4) Are any of the practice locks worth getting?
5) Is there any reliable place that I could get a tubular lockpick for less?
6) What is the difference between the E100C and the E100HO Electronic Picks?
7) Are the manual pick guns more effective than manual picks?
8) Are the electronic pick guns more effective than manual picks?
9) What do plug spinners do?

Thanks all!

1) The picks you'll need vary from person to person but usually all the average lockpick(er) will need is a C (snake)-rake, a short hook, and a small half diamond.
2) The PXS-14 is cheaper than the MPXS-11 because the PXS-14 does not have reinforced handles.
3) The difference : a) one has metal reinforced handles (one doesnt), One has more picks, The sizes of the case they come in is different.
4) I wouldn't reccomend getting a pratice lock. Maybe get a few normal locks and use them as locks to practice with.
5) I have placed an order on lockpicktools.com They sell tubular picks for about 50$ each. I'm not sure if it's reliable tho,(I haven't recieved my order yet) I'll post later on this subject.
6) I'm not sure about the model number of the electric picks. Could you post a link?
7) Manual guns can be more effective but they require pratice to get used to. Also they only work on certain types of locks.
8) Plug spiners work like this : If you pick the lock in the wrong direction, Plug spinners will spin the lock in the correct direction so you dont have to pick it again.

Wow, plug spinners seem really useful, but it also seems like they work by magic, how do the pins not fall back down and reset?

First you wind the spinner up and press a releaser, and then it spins so fast that the pins don't have time to fall back down. They work.
