Probably this is a question that would have to be discussed in the high security lock forum.

Anyway you have to be more specific: which model are you speaking about? DOM catalogue have many dimple key models and the new Diamant that is a rotating disk lock.

About the dimple key models some of them can be open by foil impressioning, I don't know if they can be picked.

I see no way to open the Diamant other that through an eventual specifically designed tool (never heard about it).

Have a look at the following video (big file: 586.3 MB):
http://connectmedia.waag.org/toool/h2k2-lockpicking-vcd.mpg
where Barry "The Key" uses foil impressioning to open a DOM lock.

Of course they can. I opened two dimple DOMs so far with my Souber Tools Dimple Pickset, not the IX ones I have to admit. I haven't seen a disassembled DOM so far, that possibly would help because there seems to be something more than just the normal pins, I can get that whatever set with my tension tool (poking around in the back of the lock) but it surely would help if I knew what I'm doing :) I think it's the thing that checks the ball in the keyblank...

Oh, and speaking about DOMs, I have a "historic" DOM Padlock here which is special in two ways, first it's a padlock using a standard-cylinder which can be removed from the lock, and second the "standard" cylinder inside it is a very rare concept using two rows of pins but not a dimple lock, I'd love to see the key for it but I don't have it :/

The Padlock:

Where the cylinder fits in:

I would consider this cylinder a predeccessor to the DOM IX, it also has 10 pins at the same positions, it's just not using a dimple key. Here a DOM IX and the lock from the padlock next to each other:

And finally a normal 5 Pin dimple DOM, this is one of the two I have picked so far... Possibly I'll disassemble it next time I open it if no one else has good images of the internals...

BTW: I got the padlock - who had expected it - without key and closed. I didn't manage to pick it, but I was able to open it using a hammer :) Same Idea like a Pick-gun, but applied to the side of the lock and directly affecting the springs holding the lock closed, not the cylinder, I was quite surprised that it worked easily on a lock looking that impressive... But meanwhile also the cylinder had been picked a few times using a normal pickset, by picking both sides alternating...

Martin
P.S.: if you remove the "sm-" in the image names you get them in a higher resolution, in case somone cares :)

Please realize that it's not working very well. We will try our best, but do not get frustrated if there's a little communication trouble.

If possible I have a couple of questions about the use/shape of Souber Tools Dimple Pickset.

In the dimple locks I own (all of them chinese copies) when the key is not inserted the lower tumblers touch the opposite side of the keyway. Looking at your pictures of the normal dimple DOM it appears to happen the same thing. There is no much room for pick insertion.

Now: the only pictures I found of the Souber Tools Dimple Pickset are from the post viewtopic.php?t=1291 is not much detailed, but in that picture the front of the picks appear to be flat.

My first question is: isn't difficult to insert that kind of pick in the keyway due to the front flat surface and the thight room left by the pin that touches the other side of the keyway? I'm asking such question because I tried to make picks with a similar shape but I was not able to use them, as soon as I applied tension they just couldn't be inserted under the pins.

Second question: would be possible to give a short description of how to use these picks and (if not too much) post some more detailed pics ?

Just for completion: at the end I made them with a completely different shape, more similar to the Spanish set: "El Matador", see the same post above and with the cheap locks I own they work quite well. If anybody is interseted I can post some Image.

Thanks.
