When it comes down to it there is nothing better than manual tools for your Lock pick Set, whether they be retail, homebrew, macgyver style. DIY'ers look here.

You are like my long lost twin brother, stealing my thoughts and everything. I finally got my ALOA member # in the mail a couple weeks ago, and ever since I've been eyeing that Falle set at mbausa....

As a newbie to the lock sport / lock pick community (but one who is interested in the subject), I'm curious as any recommendations as to when and if I should get one of the Government Elite sets.

As a newbie, you shouldn't worry about it. For now I think your money would be better spent on locks with which to practice, using a cheaper set of picks.
I don't know if you have a set of picks already, but if you are dead-set on getting Peterson picks now, you can always put together a cheap set by buying the picks that you need individually, rather than in a Government set.

Sweet jebus. Getting any one of the Gov't pick sets is a HUGE investment. Heck, getting even most of the components, is a huge investment. If you have to ask when to put so much money into picks, you aren't ready to put that munch money into picks. Unless you have a 7 figure salary, in which case, Ill take a govt set and a falle set.

Hmmm...
...well in terms of picks I'm using a SO MXPS-62. I've a got an old lock or two, but the idea of getting more locks is (as always) a good idea.
<ponders a moment or two>
I would ask for lock recommendations, but I haven't done a site search yet and there a probably a billion or so threads on it, so I won't even begin to ask.
I appreciate the feedback. It's much appreciated and I'm always game for any pointers (in the proper thread, of course).

the problem isn't with the picks it's with the operator
