I have looked through this site and seen that there is no city and guilds in locksmithing and realy just want to verify this with other members of this site.

Also keyedge as gone on ebay advertizing that they offer city & Guilds locksmith courses see item no:180118332981

the certificate has absolutely no standing and no recognition in the uk at all and is a pointless attendence certificate that confirms you did a course and covered 12 core tasks.
it is not a qualification in locksmithing nor is it a guarantee of any form of competence at all, it means the training facility has been inspected for safety and that the instructor ticks the right boxes and files course paper work properly and they have paid a fee, it is not to be confused with a qualification that guarantees a standard or skill level, this it is not.

You say they are worth less than GCSEs? I would have to disagree with you there, I think it would depend on what City and Guilds you are doing, I am doing 2330, you say it is worth less than a GCSE bit it is quite technical (2330 is electrical installation). Even if you did do this course, keyway, if you then went to get a job with a locksmith, at least you could say your have not been wasting your time and have gone out to try and learn something about locksmithing.

Matt your right about certain C+G's being worth something, electrical is a rated one. The electrical industry has protected their industry along with government legislation. Part p is another help to all sparks and will earn a lot a lot of money with testing for home seller packs certificates etc.
Unfortunately there isnt a C+G for locksmithing, check with C+G for proof on their website. This shows the course to be nothing more than a con and no employer will see it as worth anything for this reason. Most locksmiths only recognise the mla exams or want experience, you can tell far more about someone by setting a mini test than relying on a piece of paper.

i think his comments regarding city and guilds were in relation to the locksmith industry, and not in relation to other trades.

as no valid C & G qualification exists in the uk, it is worthless, whereas a city and guilds in motor mechanics is a world wide accepted qualification.

You only have to look at the bit of paper, a city and guilds qualification in most trades takes 2 to 4 years to complete, these shysters are conning locksmiths into believing they are C & G qualified locksmiths in 1 to 2 days ? should tell you something.

I can see its value to some new guys,advertise themselves as C & G qualified may con their customers into believing they are at least competent, but little more, no uk locksmith firm recognise it as anything else other than a worthless bit of paper.

The C & G center status, was not designed as a qualification, nor was it designed to have any status at all, its sole function was to give training centers a benchmark status to be able to access military and government funding for courses.

i was basing my statement on what i know about C&G, which is the computing industry. and with them its not worth the paper its printed on.

I now see your point. The reason I said you were wrong was because it only takes a couple of people to agree with your statment and before you know it , the kings got a new suit. Some people will believe anything thats written on here.
In engineering and alot of other trades including building trade, C&G is a highly recognised qualification (rightly so) especially the older style C&G 4/5 year jobbies, which is why the rest of the world is and always has entised alot of worthy tradsmen away from this, gods country
