Got my course in the mail today.

Wondering which locksmith course to take? Looking for locksmith license info for your locale? This is the forum for you.

Got my course in the mail today.

Postby desert_gold_hound » 8 May 2007 15:50

I got the first 5 lessons in the mail today from FB. There has been at least one change noticed from the other posts about the course on this site. I will give a summery of any changes along with the link to past post about this subject if anyone is interested.

I would be interested, as I am considering possibly taking a course to become certified. Thanks

Yeah I got a bunch of notices of changes that came with my first set of lessons. I forgot what they were though, I'll have to dig up the paper work and find out.

how can you learn locksmithing through the mail?
save yourself a few pennies and go ask the locksmith nearest you for an unpaid apprenticeship..in 3-6 weeks you'll learn more than you'll ever learn by these courses... :)

Just about every thread that comes up on the f/b course has someone who thinks there’s a better way to do it, and I have never heard a locksmith that has taken this course say not to take it. It's always someone who has never taken the course that says don't waste your money. There may well be better ways but everyone needs to decide what they want and how they want to go about it.

Please continue with your thread omgxraycat.

I am quite happy I am taking the course. This last week was plain weired. I was not able to work on the course. I can always pick it up from where I left. I would not have this kinda freedom with a locksmith.

So far I give the course an B+ or A-.

One of the best part of taking the FB course is that at the end of the course they offer a subscription to The National Locksmith trade magazine. And it comes with a free $15,000 membership bond and they issue a personalized Locksmith ID card for you. I just sent in my photo and paper work in to get it done so I should have it in a couple weeks or so. :D

No question is a stupid question.......It stands for Foley Belsaw....

http://www.foleybelsaw.com/

If you pay for the course all at once be persistent/polite and insist on the $599 price.....

Good luck...........

Yeah but if I'm reading what you're saying right, the locksmith already knows whats being offered. So, since he knows all about locksmithing he is just stating whether or not the curriculum is sufficient to teach someone to be a locksmith, not to actually become a successful locksmith.

You can't learn everything to become a locksmith from a book. Locksmithing, I have found through working with some of the best, is one of many trades that you only learn through actual participation.

In my opinion, this type of stuff is counter productive if you ONLY take the F/B course. I know many locksmiths taking on first timers either want you to know just about everything or nothing at all, in other words, they don't want to take on someone with bad habits as well as someone with incomplete knowledge.

They'll spend more time correcting those bad habits and filling in those incomplete areas that given the amount of salary they are paying the "experienced" f/b graduate that it would make more sense just to get an apprentice.

As said before, no course can come close to hands on work. You can use them as supplements but don't expect this one course to work magic.

Also your original statement was purely anecdotal and the outside reader should take it with a grain of salt.
